This February 2022, we celebrate Black History Month, elevating the voices of the Black community and highlighting their countless contributions. This year, the theme of this celebration was wellness and self-care, a vital issue in the wake of a pandemic that forced us to reevaluate the way we live.

Whether you need a relaxing bath, energy-boosting supplements, or vitamins to stay healthy, here’s a list of six Black-owned businesses that focus on wellness and self-care, giving you the tools to take care of your mind and body the way you need it most.

Golde

Founded by Trinity Mouzon Wofford in 2017, Golde is a brand that has one priority: to make wellness more accessible to everyone through superfoods. Golde’s products have many benefits for your body — they build your energy, help with digestion, promote healthy skin, all with natural ingredients. Their blends can be mixed into smoothies, milk, or water.

Buena Botanicals

Buena Botanicals was launched in 2019 by sisters Coral and Rah Hines, looking to reduce their mother’s chronic pain. Buena Botanicals seeks to break the stigma and has a wide range of CBD-infused products such as body creams, bath bombs, oils, and soaps.

Movita Organics

Movita Organics was founded by TV producer and author Tanya Lewis Lee. The company was born out of Tonya’s desire to find an organic vitamin option. Movita Organics has a range of vitamins for all needs: beauty, prenatal, and multivitamins created with organic and natural ingredients.

Bevel

Bevel was founded by Tristan Walker and focuses on grooming products for Black men. Bevel’s line of self-care products for men offers everything needed for hair, body, skin, and shaving products. In addition, Bevel is committed to helping end the mass incarceration and lack of resources for these people after their release through financial support by donating a portion of its sales to this cause.

For Them

Founded by Cleo Freeman, a queer and non-binary POC, For Them is a brand of wellness products for the queer community that focuses on providing a unique experience that everyone feels represented by. For Them created its first product, ‘The Binder,’ a chest compressor collaborating with designers and trans and non-binary people. Since then, it has slowly expanded its range with a CBD serum and candles created by and for people in the queer community.

Star Magic By Ashli

Ashli Haynes founded Star Magic in 2019. It is a small business dedicated to making handmade candles for special occasions. Ashli reads tarot and makes candles that allow people to express their spirituality, heal and manifest good energies. Star Magic has several types of candles that serve different purposes, and all are made with organic and natural products that Ashli chooses and are her way of spreading some light in the world.
