The early 2000s had its great moments. But it also had terrible things. Have we forgotten the obsession with weight? There was not a day that would pass by that tabloids wouldn’t publish something scrutinizing the size of celebrities. That, of course, had a domino effect on society, creating people who became hyper-fixated on what a scale dictated. From celebrities to the everyday folk, this weight craze became one of the most dangerous fads in recent years. Due to this, eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia, unfortunately, became the norm.

As the years have passed by – and “thin culture” is not pushed as much as before – a lot of people, including celebrities, are coming forward on the days weight controlled their lives. One of these celebrities is the beloved RBD singer and actress, Anahí.

Anahí recently opened up about her harrowing battle with anorexia and bulimia, shedding light on the dark corners of fame that often go unnoticed. In an exclusive interview with Joaquin Lopez-Doriga, Anahí’s candid revelations offered a rare glimpse into the challenges faced by those who seemingly have it all.

“I could go 5 or 6 days without eating. Sometimes I would eat a grapefruit. Sometimes I would eat ice to deceive my stomach. I don’t want anyone to get any ideas from this, please. But I have to tell [my story],” she told Lopez-Doriga.

With her radiant smile, Anahi became a household name at an early age. Her meteoric rise to fame as a member of the iconic pop group RBD seemed like a fairy tale come true. But behind the glittering facade, she was secretly grappling with a fierce internal struggle that threatened to consume her.

Anahí Opens Up About Her Past Eating Disorders

In an emotional interview with Joaquin Lopez-Doriga, Anahi bravely shared her journey, tracing the origins of her battle with anorexia and bulimia back to the pressures of fame. She disclosed that the incessant scrutiny of her appearance by the media and the unforgiving standards set by the entertainment industry planted the seeds of self-doubt that eventually led her down a perilous path.

“I ended up weighing 83 pounds. I was in a very bad state. The press, the same TV shows, in the same company that was supposed to be my home. And I love a lot of people at Televisa, I want to make this clear, it’s not against Televisa, it’s about what was happening at that time, we’re talking about many years ago.”

In that candid conversation, as reported by ¡Hola!, she recounted how her career’s demanding nature gradually chipped away at her self-esteem. The constant pressure to maintain a certain image pushed her towards extreme behaviors, leading to a devastating cycle of anorexia and bulimia.

“The press was extremely cruel. Body shaming was a terrible issue.”

However, Anahí’s journey is not just about the darkness she faced. It’s also a story of resilience and strength. As she shared with Lopez-Doriga, her decision to speak out was driven by the hope of helping others who might be silently battling similar demons. By discussing her struggles openly, Anahi aims to shatter the myth that celebrities are immune to the very human struggles that afflict us all.

The revelation also highlights the urgent need for the entertainment industry to reassess its standards and expectations. There is no need to hold anyone to unrealistic “beauty” standards. Every type of body is valid – and everyone is beautiful in their own way.

Though diet and weight culture continue to be a thing in our day and age, it is important to keep the dangers of obsessing with weight top of mind. Eating disorders are no joke. After all, it’s one of the deadliest mental health conditions.

If you or anyone around you is suffering from an eating disorder, get help. This is a disease that requires a solid support system.
