Mexico will skip the U.S.-hosted Summit of the Americas

As delegations from countries in the Western hemisphere are set to arrive in Los Angeles, California, for the Summit of the Americas, Mexico’s president said Monday he would not attend the gathering at which the administration of US President Joe Biden will try to advance a vision of a “secure, middle class and democratic” region, according to the White House.

Puerto Ricans debate their political status as U.S. territory

Hundreds of Puerto Ricans thronged a convention center Saturday, where federal lawmakers held a public hearing to decide the future of the island’s political status as the U.S. territory struggles to recover from hurricanes, earthquakes, and a deep economic crisis.

Shakira and Gerard Piqué break up

Colombian singer Shakira and FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué are separating after 11 years together, they said Saturday in a joint statement.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy,” they said in the statement. “Thank you for your understanding.” Shakira, 45, and Pique, 35, first met shortly before the 2010 World Cup. The soccer player appeared in Shakira’s music video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which was the tournament’s official song that year.

They went public with their relationship in 2011. The couple has two sons, Sasha, 7, and Milan, 10.

Bad Bunny and Buscabulla unleashed the crowd’s euphoria as they sang “Andrea” at the Tito Puente Amphitheater on Saturday night. Thousands of fans emulated Buscabulla’s distinctive style and came to hear the group in their first performance in Puerto Rico in years. The duo did not disappoint and closed the night on a high note by performing the song that introduced Buscabulla to a new chapter, along with Benito.
