Ladies and gentlemen, it’s finally Friday!
After a week full of activities and long days dedicated to bringing you the best stories from our community, it’s time to rest.
However, we don’t want to leave without sharing our favorite notes of the week with you.
From Latina directors helping with media representation to what you didn’t know about the Keto diet, these are our favorite BELatina pieces of the week.
As we have discussed previously, representation in media matters. It does. We are not getting tired of saying it for as long as there is still the need to unceasingly remind people of it. And Latina directors are making sure to provide us with the representative stories we so dismally crave. Here are ten Latinas that are currently helping with representation and reshaping the industry.
Puerto Rican singer, songwriter, producer, and musician, GALE, releases her most honest single. “Inmadura” is the breakup anthem of the year.
It is not surprising that the most widely recognized Latin American female painter is Frida Kahlo. And her global support, admiration, and character as an identity staple further prove that “virtually,” there were no other female painters. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Latin American women have been tirelessly painting, creating, singing, and advocating for equality and social justice. In fact, The Hammer Museum had a special exhibition and digital archive with the works of 120 Latin American women artists and collectives. Here are five Latina Artists that deserve just as much recognition as Kahlo.
It’s International Women’s Month all year long here at BELatina News, where we keep discovering and celebrating the empowering women that inspire us 24/7. In researching empowering women to further highlight in our platform, we came across the women pushing for inclusion in one of the most popular social media apps: Twitter.
Eating disorders can be extreme and often comprise unhealthy behaviors surrounding how a person eats and their relationship with food. But some might argue that extreme diets in which an individual is deprived of an entire food group (in the case of the Keto diet, carbs) are also extreme behaviors involving food, especially if the goal is fast or drastic weight loss.
This year, there have been countless Women History Month-related events. The entire nation is hosting a myriad of gatherings, and, of course, there are still plenty of virtual options available. In Miami alone, we’ve seen more events around women this month than in recent years. From HispanicPro to the Jefa Panel, women — especially Latinas — are creating the spaces that we so much deserve.
