¡Hola, besties!

It’s been a busy week here at BELatina News, and we’re more than ready to get some much-needed rest and recreation.

Before we go M.I.A. (but not really) though, let’s dive into what went down this week.

This week, we wrote about diverse topics that included: John Leguizamo who spoke out about James Franco’s casting as Fidel Castro, a Texas Church that added an anti-LGBTQ+ message to their performance of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton,” and talked about why it’s concerning that Americans are still flocking to Mexico.

But that’s not all! Here are the best stories of the week in BELatina.

For those who haven’t heard, it was recently confirmed that American actor James Franco was cast to play Former President of Cuba Fidel Castro in the upcoming independent film “Alina of Cuba.”

Yes, in 2022 – with so much Latino talent in the film industry – American actors are still portraying Latinos.

This time, however, the famous Colombian actor John Leguizamo took to social media to speak about his concerns.

Since sweat is a big factor in the transmission of monkeypox, it only makes sense to assume that shopping and fitness centers might see a shift. Hopefully, it’s not too much of a shift though.

A frequent gym-goer from Miami, Florida, 29, who chose to remain anonymous, said he’s concerned about the risk of getting infected at his local fitness center.

The “Tweet like a Latina” Twitter Thread Is Problematic – Here’s Why

Credit: BELatina News

The gist of the social media thread was to tweet “like a Latina.” People might’ve thought it was all fun and games, but in reality, their quote replies show their prejudice against our culture.

Based on that condescending Twitter thread, Latinas are still being stereotyped as hypersexual beings. I’m not saying that hypersexuality is a negative thing. However, when people start taking it to a next level of degradation, that’s where I draw a line.
