Canela Media, a leading digital media technology company that connects brands with multicultural audiences, and Audpop, a video platform connecting filmmakers, partners, and consumers globally, have opened the calls for submissions for a special challenge. AudPop’s Latin Film Challenge seeks to showcase high-quality multicultural content that celebrates Latino culture and life.

While the Latin Film Challenge launched from the AudFest stage on November 3, 2021, filmmakers interested in showcasing their work have until January 20, 2022, to submit their films.

As the festival explained in a press release, films are initially juried by AudPop staff, and films with low scores will not be allowed to compete in the film challenge. All accepted films will compete in the competition. Finalist films will be judged by a top-notch industry jury that will include members of Canela Media, a minority- and women-owned digital media company focused on reaching all U.S. Hispanics.

Films will be evaluated based on creativity, technical merit, fresh and diverse perspective, and assignment fulfillment. Also, while the organizers invite submissions in Spanish, English-language films must have Spanish subtitles.

The top 30 films will be voted on by the worldwide audience and the finalist jury. The top 15 films, as determined by Canela Media, will receive AudPop Premium Filmmaker status and a non-exclusive distribution agreement to screen on Canela Media. Canela Media’s distribution agreement includes a non-exclusive right for Canela Media to distribute your film in the United States and Mexico. Canela will cover the legal rights in a long-term contract with the winners after the campaign’s close and the selection of the winners.
