It comes the time of year when we show appreciation to our fathers — biological, foster, or spiritual — and thank them for their love and support through thick and thin. This 2021, just as we celebrated love for our mothers a couple of weeks ago, Father’s Day has taken on new meaning, especially as we see the light at the end of the tunnel of the terrible COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, Father’s Day sales are expected to reach $20.1 billion according to the National Retail Federation, up from 2020’s record figure of $17 billion.

When considering what gift to give, the idea is to consider their lifestyle, any recent life changes, and personal interest. For example, what were they planning to buy for themselves? Is there anything they’ve been wanting to do for a long time and haven’t had the time for?

As they say, sometimes the best gift is only to pay attention.

From self-care to the classics and everything in-between, we have curated a list of Father’s Day gift ideas focused on time well spent with that special papá.

A Hotel Night Stay

Many Dads I know do not splurge on themselves, tend to be pragmatic, and likely do not participate in self-care activities. However, they, too, need to rejuvenate and rest for all their hard work and sacrifice.

Whether it be a night stay in a hotel in their hometown or another city, you can find hotel deals on the Chase Sapphire Travel portal, Groupon, Hotel Tonight app, directly from hotels, and by many other means on Google.

A Well-Deserved Massage

Similarly, consider getting your dad a massage. Has he ever had one? Some may be resistant to the idea at first, but you can explain why it is therapeutic to reduce stress, improve circulation, reduce pain, and more. They, too, deserve to treat themselves to new experiences.

Spending Father’s Day Outside Together

If there’s one thing we’ve missed over the past year and a half, it’s spending time with our loved ones. What better way to celebrate love for Dad than spending time together and enjoying the great weather?

If they like spending time outdoors hiking, horseback riding, surfing, gardening, photography, woodworking — whatever it may be, it’s always better if we’re together.

Allow them to teach us a thing or two about their passions. Additionally, if it is your first time, it will likely also provide some moments of laughter, as learning something for the first time often does.

A Musical Journey to the Past

Listening to music on vinyl has no comparison. Consider buying your father a record player, or, if they have one, add a good album to their record collection.

You can buy an album you like and one of their favorites, compare, share, and learn a little about each other on Father’s Day.

Support a Cause They Care About

Another of the best gifts for Father’s Day is to let our fathers know that we listen to them and are aware of the things they care about.

If your dad is one of those who doesn’t want you to “worry” about buying him a gift, a good idea is to support the causes closest to his heart.

In my case, my father was a field worker until he retired, so I would be more likely to donate to a cause related to immigrant rights and the struggles of farm working communities.

Also, when possible, keep in mind purchasing products made of sustainable materials and helping the environment in the process.
