Before the 2016 election, 44 people had held the position of President of the United States throughout history. Only six out of those 44 presidents missed their successor’s inauguration, and only three out of those six did it intentionally.
Trump has now joined the club! It seems like he will be the fourth member of this bitter (white, wealthy, and entitled) boy band.
Following many speculations about his potential absence at the inauguration of Joe Biden as 46th president of the United States, Donald Trump decided to confirm the rumors. “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th,” he tweeted on January 8, 2021.
As reported by CNN, nobody had boycotted their successor’s inauguration for over 150 years. After so many decades of witnessing peaceful concessions, we’d think politicians had learned a thing or two about diplomacy. Well, not Mr. Trump. But we already knew that, didn’t we?
We’re talking about the same person who ran a campaign on frequently attacking Hillary Clinton, his female opponent, over her alleged “lack of judgment, stability, temperament, and moral character” to lead our nation. Yet, he can’t even fulfill the basic expectation of attending a successor’s inauguration. The situation is beyond laughable.
Let’s be real: Trump has been throwing a temper tantrum since the moment he stepped foot in the White House. He became the most powerful man in the world, but every disaster caused by his administration was somehow never his fault.
Just like a magic trick! He spent four years passing on the blame to somebody else. That’s what populists do. We know the drill.
Every time one of Trump’s staffers disagreed with him, they got fired. When the press covered his mistakes or questioned him, he verbally assaulted them. There was never room for criticism. If he didn’t get what he wanted, he threw another fit. It became so common that we stopped paying close attention.
It’s been like having The Apprentice muted on T.V. twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Only much worse and with real-life consequences. We’ve had to put up with his same old show, on repeat, and with no button to turn it off.
We know this kind of reaction is not new, but it serves as another proof of his childish behavior. Donald Trump has been unqualified and unfit for office. Regardless of how many temper tantrums he continues to throw, his time as president of the United States is finally coming to an end.
