Canadian rapper Drake is banking on his home country to beat one of the world’s best soccer teams in the 2024 Copa América semifinal.

Drake Searches for a Win After Kendrick Lamar’s Public Drag, So He Placed a $300K Bet on Canada to Beat Messi’s Argentina

The hip-hop star, who has been getting dragged by Kendrick Lamar recently, placed a whopping $300,000 bet on Canada to defeat Argentina, led by the legendary Lionel Messi, on Tuesday night. If Canada manages to pull off the upset, Drake stands to win $2.88 million. Drake needs this win considering what Lamar has put him through with his diss songs, including “Not Like Us.”

The two teams are set to face off at MetLife Stadium on July 9. Drake’s confidence in Canada’s chances is evident as he shared a screenshot of his bet on Stake via Instagram, cheekily captioning the story: “This could get Messi @stake.” This is wild, especially since Canada has never won in Copa America, meanwhile, Argentina counts with 15 victories.

    Drake, Here’s What’s at Stake

Argentina, the reigning champions, had a strong group-stage performance, with victories over Canada (2-0), Chile (1-0), and Peru (2-0). Despite a shaky quarter-final against Ecuador, which they won 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time, Lionel Messi and his team remain the favorites. Argentina has dominated Canada in their last two matches, winning by a combined score of 7-0.

On the other hand, Canada had a tougher journey. After losing to Argentina in the group stages, they held Chile to a draw and narrowly defeated Peru 1-0 to advance. Their quarter-final match against Venezuela was a nail-biter, ending 1-1 and requiring penalties, where Canada triumphed 4-3.

Argentina’s head coach, Lionel Scaloni, confirmed that Messi and Angel Di Maria might start in the semifinal. Despite initial concerns about Messi’s fitness, the 37-year-old superstar played all 90 minutes in the quarter-final. Scaloni assured fans, saying, “Messi is fine, he ended the game without any discomfort. He will start tomorrow. Yes, [Messi and Di Maria starting together] that is a possibility.”

While Messi has yet to score in three starts during this Copa América, he has provided one assist in Argentina’s 2-0 win against Canada. The Argentine team is determined to reach back-to-back finals and retain their title, making Drake’s bet an exciting high-stakes gamble. The showdown promises to be a thrilling encounter as Canada aims to defy the odds against the 2022 FIFA World Cup champions.
