Elizabeth Warren Builds on Her Momentum and Endorses 20 Democratic Women for Down-Ballot Races

Few former presidential candidates remain relevant once the Democratic nomination has come to an end.

After Senator Bernie Sanders withdrew from the race, leaving the way open for former Vice President Joe Biden to become the Democratic nominee for president, names like Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, or Cory Booker simply stopped ringing.

However, there is one candidate whose campaign has made her one of the most influential politicians in the United States.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren’s name is still on everyone’s lips, either because of her decision to support Joe Biden — a commitment made by all the candidates, in order to beat Donald Trump in November, no matter the cost — or because of her constant appearance in interviews and livestreamings during the coronavirus crisis.

Now, as the last gesture of her reach as a politician in the country, Warren announced endorsements for 20 women running for congressional, state, and local offices, according to The Hill.

This support is crucial for some candidates like Sharice Davids (Kans.), Lauren Underwood (Ill.), Abby Finkenauer (Iowa), and Katie Porter (Calif.), who are looking to keep the 2018-winning streak.

Warren is also backing a number of non-incumbents, including Christy Smith, who is running to replace former Rep. Katie Hill (Calif.); Gina Ortiz Jones, who is campaigning to replace outgoing Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas), and Candace Valenzuela, who is running in another GOP-held seat in Texas.

In an email to her supporters, Warren assured these candidates “will help enact big structural change in 2021” and are “fighting to put power in the hands of the people.”

“If we all do our part this year, a new slate of leaders will take office next January. They’ll be a breath of fresh air and a burst of energy in the fight to make our economy, our government, and our democracy work for everyone, not just the rich and powerful,” Warren said.

“Together, we can elect Democrats who support bold solutions, rather than temporary fixes and short-term deals — who will fight for bold reforms to get through this crisis, and who will address the root causes of how we got here.”

In House races where the candidate is seeking to unseat an incumbent, and according to Axios, Warren endorsed:

  • Kara Eastman, Nebraska
  • Tricia Zunker, Wisconsin
  • Christy Smith, California
  • Candace Valenzuela, Texas
  • Gina Ortiz Jones, Texas
  • Celeste Williams, Arkansas
  • Tricia Zunker, Wisconsin

In state and local races

  • Sarah McBride, for state Senate in Delaware
  • Regina Lewis-Ward, for Georgia state representative
  • Gabby Salinas, for Tennessee state representative
  • Judge Jennifer Brunner, for Ohio Supreme Court
  • Sharon Hirsch, for state representative in Texas
  • Kayser Enneking, for Florida state representative
  • Christine Marsh, for state Senate in Arizona
  • Shea Backus, for state representative in Nevada
  • Danielle Otten, for Pennsylvania state representative

Warren also endorsed Carmen Yulín Cruz for governor of Puerto Rico.
