Gloria Estefan and Paulina Chávez Advocate for Latinas with New Domestic Violence Initiative

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in four women and one in seven men will encounter physical violence from an intimate partner at some point in their lives. Alarmingly, marginalized communities, particularly Latinas, face disproportionately higher rates of such violence. In response to this urgent crisis, esteemed Grammy Award-winning artist Gloria Estefan and rising star Paulina Chávez have united their voices to address the pressing issue of gender-based violence.

Collaborating with the distinguished advocacy organizations Esperanza United and the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), they have launched a public service announcement (PSA) aimed at elevating awareness of the recently enhanced WomensLaw Email Hotline, a crucial resource for individuals impacted by domestic and dating violence.

The animated PSA, entitled “Between Amigas: Introducing the WomensLaw Email Hotline,” premiered on October 15, showcasing the importance of supporting those navigating the harrowing realities of abuse.

It encourages survivors to access the hotline for free legal services, underscoring the imperative for accessible resources in times of profound distress. Funded by the Office for Victims of Crime, the Office of Justice Programs, and the U.S. Department of Justice, this initiative seeks to bridge the gap between vulnerable individuals and essential support services.

Gloria Estefan, reflecting on her dedication to this vital cause, articulated her personal connection to the issue. “As someone who is a fierce advocate against gender-based violence, this cause is very personal to me, and I am proud to be helping Latinas get the help they need and to be supporting the important work of Esperanza United and NNEDV,” she said in an official statement.

Similarly, Paulina Chávez conveyed her commitment to the initiative, while shining a light on the unique challenges encountered by the Latino community. “As an advocate for my Latino community, I know that culture, race, and language shape our experiences,” she said. By amplifying resources such as the WomensLaw Email Hotline, she aspires to demystify the complexities of the legal system for individuals who might otherwise feel adrift.
