Did you know that there are two “Pinocchio” movies coming out this year? Disney is keeping its trend going with their live-action version of fairy tales, securing Tom Hanks (“Forrest Gump” and “Cast Away”), Joseph Gordon Levitt (“Inception” and “Looper”), and Lorraine Bracco (“Goodfellas” and “The Sopranos”) to star in the movie.

Netflix has also created its own version of “Pinocchio” through its partnership with Academy Award Winner, Guillermo del Toro. They will present a more traditional take on the fairytale. The Netflix original film is titled “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio”.

Some will argue that it features a cast more grandiose than the Disney version. Throughout “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” you can find Ewan McGregor (“Star Wars”, “Moulin Rouge”), Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine”, “The Aviator”), and Cristoph Waltz (“Django: Unchained”, “Inglorious Bastards”.)

Let’s get into what these movies will be about!

The trailer for Disney’s “Pinocchio” encompassed everything about the original animated movie but in life form. Tom Hanks plays Pinocchio‘s creator and father, Geppetto, where he takes the audience on a nostalgic trip reminding anyone of the old animated classic.

The film will be directed by legendary director Robert Zemeckis – uniting Hanks and Zemeckis for the fourth time. Zemeckis is also responsible for the 3D animated versions of “The Polar Express”, “Beowulf”, and “A Christmas Carol.” Disney’s “Pinocchio” is set to be released on September 8th.

In my opinion, the more interesting adaptation of the beloved fairy tale is no doubt “Guillermo del Toro‘s Pinocchio.”

Unlike the Disney version, this iteration will be done in “stop motion animation,” similar to “Coraline” and “Kubo and the Two Strings”.

From the trailer, the story already seems to be focused on what is going on in the characters’ heads with an overall darker and more psychological take on the story.

“Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio” is set to come out on Netflix in December 2022.

He always brings something unique and fascinating every time he releases a movie. It’s hard to not rewatch the trailer.

Which film are you more excited to watch? Are you just as excited about both?
