Representation Matters: Halle Bailey Unveils 'The Little Mermaid' Doll That Was Modeled After Her in An Emotional Video

Life is sweet here! Halle Bailey is getting her own Little Mermaid doll and we are here for it.

Bailey took to her social media to react to the Ariel doll, which was modeled after her.

“I have something really exciting to reveal to you all. I am going to cry,” Halle Bailey said in a video she shared on her social media.

“This is the new Little Mermaid doll! I am literally choking up because this means so much to me. And to have one that looks like me, that’s my favorite Disney character, is very surreal. And look, she even has my mole! See? And the hair, and the tail…I’m just stunned, so I don’t quite know what to do with it, but I’m going steal this and take it home.”

Bailey continued to express her joy in her caption.

“Omg…the little girl in me is pinching herself right now ..I have my own Little Mermaid Ariel doll !!!” the actress wrote. “I can’t believe how much she captures my version of this iconic character…brb gonna go cry now.”

The Little Mermaid, just like many other original Disney movies, is getting revamped. There is more diversity involved as well as more empowering themes.

Known for being a classic from 1989, the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid is being starred by Halle Bailey — who will play Ariel. Many Disney movie loyalists and the up-and-coming generation of Disney fans are looking forward to this new version of The Little Mermaid – and are as excited to buy this new doll. Take a look at what they’re saying:

This type of representation was long overdue. It is great to know that the new generation will be able to identify with who’s looking back at them on the screen.

The Little Mermaid will hit U.S. theaters on May 23rd.
