BELatina’s Best of the Week: Bennifer’s Controversial Wedding Venue, Bad Bunny’s ‘Suavemente’ Tribute, and More

Happy Friday, amiguis!

It’s been quite the week – but we got through it! Have you been jamming to Bad Bunny’s “Neverita,” or Elvis Crespo’s “Suavemente,” since Benito’s music video release came out too? Or is that just us?

For those who haven’t seen it, we covered all the little details that the video recreated. Not only that, but this week we also wrote about other Latine issues.

We covered the second Official FIFA World Cup Song that questions how welcoming Qatar actually is, we wrote about Bennifer’s controversial wedding venue, and dove into Guillermo del Toro’s forthcoming adaptation of “Pinocchio.”

With that being said, here are the best stories of the week from BELatina News.

We’re less than three months away from the FIFA World Cup in Qatar – and just like every four years, the hype for the FIFA World Cup is coming in hot.

The latest update is all about Puerto Rican and Dominican artist Ozuna, who released the global competition’s second official upbeat single  “Arhbo,” featuring Congolese-French rapper Gims.

Although “arhbo” means “welcome” in English, Qatar’s not necessarily opening its arms to every tourist that’s visiting the Arab country in November.

Bennifer is making headlines for something controversial. We’re talking about their chosen wedding venue: Affleck’s estate in Georgia. If it rings a bell, it’s because this particular estate has been in the news before.

It appears that their ceremony took place at Affleck’s “imitation” plantation that was (allegedly) previously owned by a slave owner. And get this: the slave owner was unveiled to reportedly be one of Affleck’s ancestors, Benjamin Cole.

El Conejo Malo blessed his fanbase with the music video for “Neverita,” a song off of his latest album, “Un Verano Sin Ti.”

“Neverita’s” vibe is a comedic masterpiece – it’s also very trippy, to say the least.

Aside from the Elvis Crespo homage, he also used the video to give a nod to the 90s, as well as to popular culture’s references.

To understand more about how this will impact Latinos and people of color, BELatina News spoke with the White House Higher Education Policy Adviser, Katherine Valle.

“We project that up to 43 million people will be eligible for debt cancellation and up to 20 million people will be eligible to have all of their student debt fully canceled. This is going to impact 95 percent of the people who have these student debts,” Katherine Valle, the White House Higher Education Policy Adviser told BELatina News.

Valle encouraged students to check out StudentAid.Org and to submit their email addresses to the Department of Education; they can start the application process “in a few weeks.”

Unlike the Disney version, this iteration will be done in “stop motion animation,” similar to “Coraline” and “Kubo and the Two Strings”.

From the trailer, the story already seems to be focused on what is going on in the characters’ heads with an overall darker and more psychological take on the story.

“Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio” is set to come out on Netflix in December 2022.
