We love seeing artists of all calibers grow.

Last year, BELatina News interviewed the Colombian contemporary artist and muralist Juliana Plexxo on her innovative pieces. Since then, she’s become the first Latina under the age of 30 to be nominated for the University of Berkeley’s “Young Talent of the Year” at the Berkeley World Business Analytics Awards. The awards took place on Oct. 24.

“I have no words to describe what I feel, after fighting for my dream and working so hard I can only say thank you to everyone who has helped me from the beginning, my friends, my family and especially my mom!” Plexxo wrote online.

She continued: “This nomination is for my three countries Colombia, Ecuador, and Spain my home ❤️ for @artiviveapp my partners in crime 👩‍🎨 for the studio of Joan Barbara @filosom and for my father and grandfather who see me from heaven ❤️.”

“In addition to being nominated, they chose me to deliver 3 artworks to the winners of Woman of the Year, Project of the Year, and Young Talent.”

According to Forbes, Plexxo was nominated due to her Artivive application: “Juliana was nominated for this award for her dedicated work in rescuing the ancestral technique of engraving with technology through augmented reality with the help of her allies from Artivive, an application that sponsors Plexxo’s exhibitions around the world.”

Aside from that, she was also invited by the University of Berkeley to give a speech about her work as an artivist. She says it’s an “honor” to represent Latin American artists at the prestigious university.

How’s that for leaving your mark on our community? What a way to commemorate her artwork! We can’t wait to see what’s next for one of our favorite modern Colombian artists!

Lastly, a special shout-out to everyone who participated at the Berkeley World Business Analytics Awards this year!
