The Premios Juventud 2021 are here, and the nominations have caught us all by surprise.
Billboard reported that the two Colombian artists are followed by J Balvin and Maluma with 11 nominations, Daddy Yankee, Los Dos Carnales, and Myke Towers with nine nominations, and with eight each, Christian Nodal and Natti Natasha, among other nominees.
This year’s 18th edition of the Premios Juventud is themed “Youth Leading Change in Culture” and is intended to reflect the diverse and global growth of Latin music, as well as recognize “agents of change” in the industry and community, but will also return with a live audience.
“We made history as the first live music awards show during the pandemic, and now, we are excited to bring back a live audience to our show that will feature Latin music’s hottest stars, emerging artists, and honor remarkable individuals making their mark in the community and around the globe,” said Ignacio Meyer, SVP of Music, Nonfiction and Development at Univision, in a statement.
With 14 new categories, this year’s Premios Juventud will recognize the best regional Mexican collaboration, viral song of the year, girl power, among others.
Alejandra Espinoza has been confirmed as one of this year’s main presenters, as well as Borja Voces (backstage host) and Gabriel Coronel, Jomari Goyso, Roberto Hernandez, Clarissa Molina, and Fatima Molina as co-hosts of the “PJ Takeover” preshow.
Premios Juventud will take place live at the Watsco Center in Miami on Thursday, July 22, at 7 p.m. ET/PT on Univision. Voting will remain open through June 28 at PremiosJuventud.com and on the Uforia app.
