One of the saddest paradoxes of living in America is that you have lost a loved one at the hands of police violence, and you are arrested for protesting against it. This is precisely what happened to Breonna Taylor’s aunt and Jacob Blake’s father last Wednesday night while protesting the death of Jayland Walker at the hands of police in Akron, Ohio.

As USA Today reported, the two high-profile national critics of police violence were arrested in Akron, a northern Ohio city, where Walker was shot dozens of times by police as he fled a traffic stop last week.

While police detained Austin, Blake Sr. was transported to a local hospital.

As reported by the Daily Beast, police booked BReonna Taylor’s aunt into the local jail on charges of alleged rioting, disorderly conduct, and failure to disperse, while a warrant was issued for the arrest of Blake Sr.

Protests erupted across the city after the Akron Police Department released body camera footage Sunday showing the brutal shooting.

Walker, a 25-year-old black man, was killed during an attempted traffic stop on June 27. Police said Walker fled the traffic stop and fired at police.

Officers fired more than 90 shots at Walker, who was struck by at least 60 bullets.

Sadly, this is a familiar scenario for the family members of Breonna Taylor and Jacob Blake.

Blake was shot seven times in the back by a white police officer, leaving him paralyzed. The police officers involved did not face charges.

For her part, Taylor was killed by police who entered her apartment unannounced using a “no-knock” warrant. Although some officers were fired, none faced criminal charges.
