What movies did you watch this year that you enjoyed a lot? Did a particular series hook you in less than a week making you binge-watch as much as possible?

I can say that I’m almost 100 percent certain that Latinos were part of those good binge-watching moments this 2022. I mean, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio and the series Gordita Chronicles were very popular within our community, just to name a few. It’s sad Gordita Chronicles was canceled, but it isn’t canceled in our hearts.

In case you didn’t have the chance to stream during these past 365 days, here are five movies or series released in 2022 with Latine talent that you need to make sure to watch soon.

Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths

Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, Bardo tells the story of an acclaimed journalist who goes through a retrospective journey to reconcile with his past, the present, and his Mexican identity. The movie stars Daniel Giménez Cacho, Ximena Lamadrid, Luis Couturier, and Andrés Almeida, among others.

Bardo is currently available on Netflix.

Pinocchio

A darker version of the classic children’s novel, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio tells the story of the well-known wooden puppet who transforms into a real kid and his carver Geppetto. The message of this film goes deeper than just telling the animated journey of Pinocchio.

The film stars the voices of Ewan McGregor, Gregory Mann, Ron Perlman, Tilda Swinton, and Cate Blanchett, among others.

You can watch Pinocchio on Netflix.

Wednesday

We all fell in love with Wednesday Addams this year. From Tim Burton’s imagination, the Addams Family comes back to everybody’s screens with the story of Wednesday and her efforts to dominate her psychic ability while resolving a mystery that involves her parents, Gomez and Morticia.

The series stars Latine actors like Jenna Ortega, Luis Guzmán, and Isaac Ordonez.

You can currently stream Wednesday on Netflix.

We still, however, haven’t forgotten Tim Burton’s problematic history with adding Black characters to his creations. It’s lacking and without valid reasoning.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Another successful Marvel movie highlights indigenous cultures with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a film where the Wakanda nation is confronting world powers while dealing with the loss of their king. The film is full of Mayan and Aztec references.

The movie stars Latine talents such as Tenoch Huerta, Mabel Cadena, Lupita Nyong’o, Alex Livinalli, and María Mercedes Coroy.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be available soon on Disney+.

Blonde

This series tells a fictional story of the iconic Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe, who’s played by Cuban actress Ana de Armas. Blonde shows the private life and the price for fame Marilyn had to pay during her golden years.

The series also stars Julianne Nicholson, Sara Paxton, and Xavier Samuel, among others.

You can stream Blonde on Netflix.
