In the digital world, there no longer seem to be any obstacles to accessibility. Thanks to technological development, language gaps are no longer a problem, especially when enjoying a good movie. These obstacles are now a thing of the past thanks to ingenious applications such as TheaterEars.

TheaterEars is a free platform available in the United States and Puerto Rico that synchronizes a movie studio’s official Spanish-language audio track with an English-language movie playing in a local theater.

After its success with films such as “In The Heights,” TheaterEars has now collaborated with Netflix to bring Spanish-speaking audiences the film “Tick, Tick… BOOM!”, the feature film directorial debut of Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“Bringing this Jonathan Larson story to film has been a dream come true. I vividly remember the moment the stage version of tick, tick…BOOM! grabbed the 21-year old me and never let me go. It matters that all audiences, including Spanish-speaking audiences with TheaterEars, have the opportunity to be captivated just like I was,” said Miranda, who also starred in an Encores! Off-Center production of “tick, tick…BOOM!”

The film stars Andrew Garfield as a young, up-and-coming theater composer navigating love, friendship, and the pressures of life as an artist in New York City.  “Tick, Tick…BOOM!” will be released in select theaters nationwide beginning November 12.

Dan Mangru, CEO of TheaterEars, further commented that “working with Spencer and the entire team at Netflix has been a pleasure.  They’ve been nothing but terrific. We are especially proud to be a part of the directorial debut of Lin-Manuel Miranda, a man who has reimagined entertainment for this generation and opened opportunities for many.  This film deserves to be seen by as many people as possible, and we are proud to have this movie in Spanish for our TheaterEars app users.”

TheaterEars has over 600k registered iOS and Android users and can be used to enjoy select movies in theaters and at home.
