West Mexican village breaks crochet world record

The Cielo Tejido collective, made up of 150 people, has created the world’s longest crochet, measuring 8,000 square meters. The crochet covers the town of Etzatlán in western Mexico.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky meets with U.S. senators through Zoom

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told U.S. lawmakers Saturday that his country urgently needs more U.S. assistance, including the establishment of a no-fly zone over Ukraine, in its fight against Russian encroachment.

During an hour-long meeting with members of Congress, Zelensky thanked the U.S. for its support so far, but called for more military support and greater sanctions on Russia, including on energy, according to a person familiar with the session.

On this year’s list, Pose’s Afro-Latina actress Michaela Jaé Rodriguez is one of the inaugural honorees for rising to the top of her field and striving to bring about the change she hopes to see.

Activists Install Feminist Statue in Mexico City Ahead of Women’s Day

Hundreds of people held a day of collective action Saturday in Mexico City at the Monumento a las Mujeres Que Luchan and reinstalled a feminist statue in the empty zocalo of a rotunda.

The event, ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8 and a possible national strike the following day, brought together civil society groups and organizations that reinstalled a violet silhouette of a girl raising her fist and the word “justice” on her back in the central zócalo on Reforma Avenue, formerly dedicated to Christopher Columbus.

Acclaimed Latino Actor Oscar Isaac Makes Saturday Night Live Host Debut

This weekend, Oscar Isaac made his long-awaited debut as host of “SNL” alongside musical guest Charli XCX. The acclaimed actor kicked off an episode packed with commentary on a wide range of hot-button topics, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, Rihanna’s belly, and Netflix’s “Inventing Anna.”

“My name is Oscar Isaac, but my full name is Oscar Isaac Hernández Estrada,” the actor began his opening monologue.

“I said to Hollywood, ‘You can pick two of these names.’ Guess what they went with? The white ones. I’m half Guatemalan, half Cuban. Or, as casting directors call that, ‘ethnically ambiguous.’ According to them, I can play anything from a pharaoh to Timothée Chalamet’s daddy.”

Massive soccer brawl in Mexico leaves more than 20 injured

A soccer match in Mexico between Queretaro and Atlas turned into a horror show on Saturday. According to The Associated Press, more than 20 people were injured when the game turned into an all-out brawl between fans.
