A casting call for the television series “Ironheart” announced that it is looking for a Black, Latina, or Afro-Latina transgender woman between the ages of 18 and 22 to play a new Marvel character.

This is Marvel’s latest effort to diversify its character roster after years of prioritizing protagonists of color and members of the LGBTQ+ community within its universe.

Last year, Chloé Zhao’s “Eternals” introduced the first openly gay superhero in the MCU with Phastos, played by Brian Tyree Henry. Similarly, Loki’s fluid gender identity and bisexuality were confirmed in his popular Disney+ series.

Meanwhile, “Ironheart,” the TV series coming to Disney+ in 2023, has already added Dominique Thorne (Judas And The Black Messiah, If Beale Street Could Talk) as genius inventor Riri Williams in Ironheart, an original series about the creator of the most advanced armor since Iron Man, Mirror explained.

“Ironheart” will make her first appearance in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Marvel chief Kevin Feige confirmed last year.

According to POC Culture, the character will have “a mystical bent and unique sense of humor” and be “unapologetically nerdy about things that excite her…even if they might be terrifying to others.”

The casting call comes amid the state of Florida’s decision to pass “Don’t Say Gay,” legislation that bans classroom lessons on sexual orientation or gender identity in elementary school.

As Pink News reported, Marvel Studios was one of the brands that broke ranks with a statement of denunciation.

“We strongly denounce any and ALL legislation that infringes on the basic human rights of the LGBTQIA+ community,” Marvel Studios wrote on Twitter.

“Marvel Studios stands for hope, inclusivity, and strength, and we proudly stand with the community. Today, we pledge to continue our strong commitment as allies who promote the values of equality, acceptance, and respect.”
