Talking about the weekend, our community appeared in quite a few headlines these past couple of days. (As expected.) From Amazon Studios’ attempt to close the representation gap in Hollywood to Mora showing Puerto Rico a good time, a lot happened.

Let’s dive deeper into these stories.

Mora Sings Alongside Bad Bunny and Sech in His Debut Concert

The Puerto Rican singer, Gabriel Armando Mora Quintero, or Mora as he’s better known, performed at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in Puerto Rico as part of his “Micro-dosis” concerts. Mora scheduled four shows on the island to allow as many people to enjoy his musical talent and energetic set-ups. As part of his shows, he surprised his fans with special guests. Among those guests were superstars Bad Bunny and Sech, who sang “Volando Remix” together.

He also brought out Eladio Carrión, Tommy Torres, Brray, among others, during his shows. The crowd sang along to Mora’s music throughout the duration of the shows. Is Mora the next reggaeton superstar?

Eva Longoria and George Lopez are Starring in a New Latino-centric Disney+ Movie

According to an exclusive from the Hollywood Reporter, Eva Longoria and George Lopez are set to appear in “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” an adaptation of Judith Viorst’s best-selling children’s book.

The premise of the film is about a Mexican-American family trying to reconnect with one another and their roots while on a road trip. Humor takes the front seat on this trip.

The film, which is said to be set for Disney+’s platform, will be directed by Marvin Lemus, the co-creator and showrunner of the beloved Latinx (now canceled) show on Netflix, “Gentefied.”

Amazon Studios Strengthens Its Commitment to the Latino Community

As activists, filmmakers, and others bring to light the lack of proper representation in Hollywood, Amazon Studios is stepping up to the plate. They are now partnering with some of Mr. Edward James Olmos’ initiatives such as the Latino Film Institute and the Youth Cinema Project. Amazon Studios is also partnering with a local non-profit organization, LA Collab, as reported by Variety. The goal is to bring authentic Latino representation to Hollywood and give Latino filmmakers a fair chance at these spaces.

“As we strive to be a global entertainment destination, we acknowledge the power and importance of Latino audiences. In order to tell their rich and dynamic stories authentically, we need their skills and creative power both in front of and behind the camera,” said Latasha Gillespie, global head of DEIA for Amazon Studios, Freevee, and IMDb, in a press statement.

The Latinas Represent Summit was Held This Past Weekend

Many incredible Latinas joined the Latinas Represent Summit on October 8th, a one-day virtual event where Latino culture, political identity, colorism, and more were discussed. Through this event, they were able to remind the world that there’s nothing like Latinas empowering other Latinas.

The keynote speaker was the renowned leader and activist, Monica Ramirez, the Founder and President of Justice for Migrant Women. Also, among the speakers present were Lucy Flores, Rosa Clemente, Daisy Prado, and more. Let’s hope events like these continue to be held because they are an important part of our growth as a community.

Olga Tañón Cancels Her Performance at the Latino Show Awards 2022

The famed Puerto Rican merenguera, Olga Tañón, has canceled her performance at the Latino Show Awards due to a breach of contract from the event. In a press release, it is stated that her team came to the decision upon the lack of adherence to the established agreements within the required timeframe. Tañón’s team wished the outcome were different. Nonetheless, they wish the event success. Olga Tañón posted the press statement on her Instagram account as well.
