BELatina’s Weekly Recap: Ivy Queen, Latina TikToker, Frida Kahlo’s Artwork, and More

Happy Friday, mi gente! We hope your week treated all of you with kindness. For those of you who are working through the weekend: we hope these next couple of days go by smoothly.

We are tackling the final week of Hispanic Heritage Month – and we’ve seen so many wonderful stories about our peers in the media.  We can only hope this continues to happen moving forward.

Plenty about our Latino community has also been covered at BELatina News. This week was no exception.

From learning about Sarai Soto, the viral Latina TikToker who depicts toxic workplace environments in her content to Latina singers, such as Ivy Queen and Cardi B, nearly breaking the internet at the beginning of the week, it’s been an eventful week.

Below you’ll find a quick recap of the stories you might’ve missed.

This past weekend, the world was reminded of the value Latinas bring.

Legendary Latina artists trended through social media as people expressed their excitement about seeing their favorite artists vibing and thriving. From being recognized for starting the movement involving the Latin music scene to making space for other artists, there is no denying that Latinas are a force to be reckoned with.

Familia Kitchen Launches a Crowdsourced Cookbook That Acts as a Treasury of Latino Dishes

The Familia Kitchen Cookbook is here!

What once started out as a website, which hosts a multitude of Latin American – and Abuela-approved – recipes, is now coming to a bookstore near you!

As opposed to Familia Kitchen’s premise online, the book builds a feast around each dish with expanded homecooked, crowdsourced recipes.

‘The Great British Bake Off’ Missed the Mark with Mexican Week – It’s Tasteless and Eyebrow-Raising

“I don’t feel like we should make Mexican jokes because people will get upset,” one of the hosts of The Great British Bake Off, Noel Fielding, said on the episode’s promotion. “What, not even Juan?” his co-host Matt Lucas responds. “Not even Juan,” Fielding said. Cringe.

This was how the popular British baking competition show, which also streams on Netflix, The Great British Bake Off’s social media presented the show’s Mexico Week episode.
