Luis Fonsi is a modern history maker, a legacy, and more. He is also known for bringing Latinos together. Beyond that, he has a way of uniting the entire world.

Remember when “Despacito” was all everyone heard non-stop? Even Justin Bieber made it into the remix, allowing it to further position itself in the mainstream space. Let’s not forget that “Despacito” became the song to spend the most weeks at number one in the Hot Latin Charts as well. This hadn’t happened since the chart’s inception in 1986. His global impact made many Latinos feel pride and gave us something else to celebrate about.

Today, he continues to influence how people enjoy themselves. From his music to the things he’s involved in, there’s no denying how intentional this renowned singer, songwriter, and producer is with everything he does in life. In fact, you’ll now be able to feel some of his flair in the ocean as he was recently named the godfather of the Norwegian Viva, the latest vessel from Norwegian Cruise Line.

Though Fonsi has yet to travel in the Viva, he did have the opportunity of experiencing the first vessel of the Norwegian Prima and expressed how happy he felt with everything.

“I love that the ship will leave from San Juan, my favorite city. I also love how everyone onboard takes care of you all day,” Fonsi told BELatina News during an event announcing his new role.

The Norwegian Viva is the second ship of the groundbreaking Prima Class, and it is set to make waves in the cruising world. The christening ceremony, led by Luis Fonsi himself, will take place in Miami before the ship embarks on its journey from San Juan, Puerto Rico this upcoming fall.

Luis Fonsi, the GRAMMY® nominated and five-time Latin GRAMMY® winning artist, will lend his star power to the christening celebration of Norwegian Viva in November 2023. This honor highlights the ship’s significance within the Prima Class fleet and the company’s commitment to offering extraordinary experiences that speak to its diverse travelers. With its homeport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Norwegian Viva will embark on a series of Caribbean voyages, captivating travelers with its luxurious amenities and immersive itineraries.

Luis Fonsi is Bringing Latino Flair to the Sea

The Puerto Rican-born artist will continue this legacy by blessing and officially naming Norwegian Viva during the November 28, 2023, christening ceremony in Miami, known as the “Cruise Capital of the World.” The evening’s festivities, centered around the theme “Live it Up!,” will feature exclusive performances by Latin entertainers, including Paulina Rubio, Marcello Hernandez, and Pedro Capó.

David J. Herrera, President of Norwegian Cruise Line, expressed his excitement about welcoming Luis Fonsi as the godfather of Norwegian Viva:

“Miami, our hometown, is immersed in Latin culture, and we want to celebrate Norwegian Viva’s debut with an infusion of Latin talent headlined by Luis,” Herrera said.

“As a native Puerto Rican, who is also based in Miami, he brings people together from around the world with his energy, positivity and music, making him the perfect complement to the vibrant energy of Norwegian Viva.”

During the christening, Luis Fonsi will partake in the nautical traditional breaking of a champagne bottle on the ship’s bow, symbolizing good fortune for the vessel and its passengers. Following the christening voyage, Norwegian Viva will become San Juan’s newest homeported ship on December 15, 2023. It will offer captivating seven-day Caribbean voyages, visiting destinations such as Tortola, St. John’s, Bridgetown, Castries, Philipsburg, and St. Thomas, before embarking on a summer season of European cruises from Athens, Lisbon, Rome, and Venice.

Luis Fonsi expressed his gratitude at being named the godfather of Norwegian Viva, emphasizing the importance of the ocean in his life as someone who grew up on an island. He emphasized that cruising offers an incredible vacation experience and looks forward to introducing this remarkable ship to the world.
