As Dembow gains mainstream popularity, you may have been hearing of “La 42” — also known as “La 42 de Capotillo” — in the Dominican Republic.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, this is a street located in the city of Santo Domingo that is considered by locals as one of the most unsafe places in the area. But it’s more than that. So much more.

“La 42” (la cuatro-dos) has been making it to the headlines and becoming a well-known area, even for tourists and foreigners, after different music artists portray life in the sector. It is often included in their music videos as well.

According to an article by Listín Diario, one of the most prominent publications in the Dominican Republic, singers Anuel AA and Eladio Carrión recorded the music video for their song “North Carolina” in this barrio. Ozuna, Cherry Scom, and Kiko El Crazy recorded the visual material for the remix of “Baje con trenza” in the same location too.

On the other hand, “La 42” has also gained some mentions on TikTok after several users that know the area took to their social media accounts to speak about what can be experienced in this sector.

“Capotillo is the most, we would say, caliente area in Santo Domingo and all the Dominican Republic, I think,” says user Charlie6 on a TikTok clip. “Being there feels like if you’re in a parallel universe, it’s like another dimension, I swear. It’s like those GTA video games where you kill people, but in real life.”

If we’re talking about parties and rumba, the teteos are something you can easily find in the “La 42” area. A teteo is – as per the initiative Fundeú Guzmán Ariza –  refers to a party or dance that takes place while violating the COVID-19 norms implied by the Dominican government. Although, many Dominicans now use it interchangeably with the word party – or fiesta.

The king of ‘La 42’ Ángel Dior is taking Dembow by storm

More recently, “La 42” made it to the stage of Bad Bunny’s “World’s Hottest Tour” when artist Ángel Dior, who calls himself “El Rey De La 42,” joined el Conejo Malo during last Friday night’s sold-out concert at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez installations.

Before becoming Ángel Dior, Ángel Rosario used to sell hot chocolate in the Villa María streets with his father, according to Listín Diario. Now, the dembowsero is gaining more fame and becoming an icon in the Dominican Republic teteos

“Dior Ángel, Ángel Dior. This is a video to thank Bad Bunny for his invitation. I feel super grateful, I don’t know, it was a dream come true,” said the artist in an Instagram video

Maybe, we’ll soon start seeing more remixes with a new dembow face in the Latine music industry.
