Cardi B has always known how to make herself heard, but now her voice has found an unexpected platform in the tunnels and platforms of New York City. The Latina, Bronx-born rapper has been promoting her latest album everywhere she can be seen, selling copies in bodegas, stopping by malls, and even offering physical discs directly to commuters on the subway.

Cardi B Provides Announcements with Personality

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority confirmed through social media that Cardi B has temporarily become the voice of the subway. Her energy now flows through the loudspeakers of stations across the system, reminding passengers to pay their fare, stay authentic, travel safely, and keep moving. She also offers a characteristically playful warning: the steps are meant to be walked on, not sat on. The MTA has not said how long these announcements will continue, leaving riders to discover them as they move through the city.

This is not the first time the MTA has invited a famous voice to deliver messages about safety. Jerry Seinfeld once did it, as did Awkwafina and more recently Keenan Thompson. Cardi B now joins that line, adding her distinctive presence to the daily commute of millions.

    An Album On The Move

The campaign coincides with the release of her second studio album, Am I the Drama?, which arrived on September 19, 2025. Within four days the record had been streamed nearly 50 million times on Spotify worldwide. The album spans 23 tracks and features collaborations with Janet Jackson, Selena Gomez, and Summer Walker, offering a mix of styles and voices that reflect her growing reach.

Cardi B’s approach to promotion has been anything but quiet. By appearing in everyday places and interacting directly with people, she has turned the release into a citywide event. Her willingness to step into bodegas, malls, and subway cars with the same enthusiasm she brings to a stage has blurred the line between performer and promoter in ways that are uniquely hers.

    No Branded MetroCard This Time

While Olivia Rodrigo and Dolly Parton once had special MetroCards tied to their campaigns, the MTA ended the practice in December, so there will be no limited-edition swipe for Cardi B. Still, her voice has managed to slip into one of the most ordinary rituals of New York life. For many, that may be even more memorable than a card that fits in a wallet.
