The Conga Room, a Place That Was Once Graced by Celia Cruz, Is Sadly Closing Down

The historic Conga Room is preparing to bid a fond farewell on March 27, marking the conclusion of its illustrious 25-year tenure as a bastion of Latin music and fusion in the heart of Los Angeles.

The evening promises to be a spectacular affair, guided by none other than Hollywood luminary Jimmy Smits, who will be joined by renowned comedian and investor Paul Rodriguez. Among the luminaries gracing this grand finale is the Salsa maestro Gilberto Santa Rosa, whose melodies have reverberated within the walls of the Conga Room for decades. Like Santa Rosa, others have made history within this beautiful space.

Central to the growth of the Latin music and cultural scene in Los Angeles, the Conga Room has transcended genres and geographical divides, embodying a dynamic multicultural environment that has attracted world-renowned musicians and fans.

The Conga Room Will Go Down in History as a Safe Space for Latin Music

Since its inception in 1999 at its Wilshire Blvd location, the Conga Room has championed cultural diversity. From its historic opening night with the Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz, to performances by Buena Vista Social Club, Tito Puente, Carlos Santana, and more, the venue has played host to an impressive array of artists spanning genres from Salsa to R&B, Hip Hop, and beyond.

As the Conga Room prepares to bid farewell, it continues to leave a lasting legacy through its philanthropic endeavors, particularly through its support of Conga Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering confidence and self-expression in children through dance and music.

Founded in 2016, Conga Kids has positively impacted the lives of thousands of elementary students in under-resourced communities across LA County, fostering social and emotional well-being through an inclusive curriculum rooted in the rich traditions of the Afro-Diaspora.

Established in 1999 by visionary entrepreneur Brad Gluckstein, the Conga Room has been a labor of love for many people, including luminaries such as Jennifer Lopez, Paul Rodriguez, and Sheila E. Over the years, the venue has evolved and expanded, relocating to L.A. LIVE in 2009 and music aficionados like Amaury Nolasco, Baron Davis, Trevor Ariza, and will.i.am. Together, they have upheld the Conga Room’s mission of promoting music and culture in the city, enriching the lives of countless individuals through their contributions to the local arts scene.

One thing is for sure: The spirit of celebration and community that has defined the Conga Room will live on.
