Gustavo Petro wins Colombian elections

Former guerrilla Gustavo Petro won Sunday’s runoff against populist business tycoon Rodolfo Hernandez, making him the country’s first leftist head of state. Petro beat Rodolfo Hernandez, a former mayor of Bucaramanga and business tycoon, with 50.47 percent of the vote in the runoff election and will take office in July amid a series of challenges, including growing discontent over inequality and the rising cost of living. Hernandez obtained 47.27 percent, with almost all ballots counted.

Europe experiences dangerous heat waves, and the United States prepares to follow suit

Over the weekend, France, Spain, and the United Kingdom experienced record-breaking heat waves, reaching 41 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, U.S. authorities have warned that a dozen states are under heat alerts for the coming days. From the northern plains to the southeast, temperatures will be in the upper 90s, with heat index levels well into the triple digits.

Jennifer Lopez, Antonio Banderas, Penelope Cruz, and Ana de Armas are among the big names headlining a loaded lineup of thrillers, comedies, and documentaries this season. “Halftime,” “The Father of the Bride,” and “Official Competition” are just a few of them.

Special education students left out of high school graduation program feel ‘discriminated’

Months of anticipation turned to disappointment when six California special education graduating students noticed their names were not included in their high school’s graduation program and their diplomas were not ordered in time for the ceremony. A spokesperson for the San Leandro Unified School District told NBC News this kind of “clerical error” had not previously occurred in the special education program’s history.
