The Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris has long been known as a night devoted to fútbol’s brightest stars, yet this year a Colombian voice carried across the Théâtre du Châtelet before any trophy was lifted. Blessd, the 25-year-old urban artist whose name offstage is Stiven Mesa Londoño, became the first Latino artist to inaugurate the annual gala, stepping into a tradition once reserved for European and global performers.

A Colombian Artist On A Global Stage

Blessd opened the 69th edition of the Ballon d’Or by performing his track Condenado al éxito II before an audience of nearly 2,000 guests. The room was filled with players, coaches, and executives gathered to honor the best in the world of fútbol. In a statement released through his record label, he reflected on the weight of the moment, saying that representing Latinos, his country, and all dreamers at the Ballon d’Or was not only an honor but a dream fulfilled.

His presence at the gala places him among international figures who have introduced the ceremony in recent years. In 2022, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli opened with Nessun Dorma, while Nigerian singer Rema performed Calm Down at the 2024 edition. Blessd’s performance added a Latin American chapter to the event’s history, one that has now expanded to include Colombian talent on the same stage as the game’s legends.

Music And Football Intertwined

For those who don’t know, Blessd is among the youngest investors in European professional fútbol, with stakes in Vendsyssel FF of Denmark and Conquense of Spain. His dual role as an artist and entrepreneur gives him a profile that extends into the business side of the sport, linking his career to the very industry that filled the Paris theater for the ceremony.

The Ballon d’Or gala will distribute eleven awards this year, including the men’s trophy for which Ousmane Dembélé of PSG and Lamine Yamal of Barcelona are contenders. Colombia will also be represented through Real Madrid player Linda Caicedo, nominated for the Kopa Trophy in the women’s category, although she confirmed she would not attend the event.

A Night That Blends Cultures

Blessd’s performance in Paris carried Latin American representation into a celebration of football followed by millions worldwide. His set opened the door for future collaborations between global sport and Latin music, and his words made clear that he viewed the night as more than a personal success.

He stood on stage as both an artist and a symbol of cultural pride, and to many watching the moment brought together two passions, music and fútbol, that move across borders with the same force.
