Milan and Sasha have entered music without ceremony. Their mother sat in the audience as they took the stage in Miami, her hands clapping slowly, her face steady. Notably, Shakira was not a performer that night. She was a parent watching her sons, 12 and 10, debut The One, a song carried by Sasha’s voice and Milan’s hands on percussion. The performance marked their first public step as artists.

The song appears on All For You, an album born out of the Next Generation of Artists program, created by Argentina’s Guillermo Vadalá and Nerina Nicotra through the Let it Beat Academy. The initiative supports young musicians between 10 and 20. The One was recorded alongside the young singer Mila V. and other children. On YouTube, the video has already crossed 377,000 views, as of the writing of this article.

Shakira Did What She Felt Was Best for Her Kids

The pressure to leave Barcelona came before this moment. “I settled in Barcelona to give my children stability. Now we seek that same stability in another part of the world, near family, friends and the sea,” Shakira wrote last April, shortly after relocating to Florida. Her sons had endured months of media harassment, she said, in the wake of her separation from Gerard Piqué.

The pursuit followed them from schoolyards to sidewalks, and the decision to leave Spain came after what she described as “relentless siege.” Her public appeal came days after the move. “At this moment of change in my life as a public figure, it’s understandable that there’s constant curiosity from the press around me and my family. However, my sons, Milan and Sasha, have had a very difficult year. They have suffered relentless pursuit from paparazzi and several media outlets in Barcelona. Now that they are starting a new chapter in their lives, I ask the media, on behalf of my children, to please respect their right to privacy.” That request was a demand from a woman who has seen the machine up close.

Milan and Sasha Are Just Starting

On Mother’s Day, she posted a clip singing All of Me by John Legend with her sons, the caption written with clear intent:This song goes to all mothers who give “all of them.”

Shakira’s own tour, Las mujeres ya no lloran, opens this week in Charlotte. Alejandro Sanz will appear at the first concert. The dates run through June along the eastern US, then Texas, then finish at the end of the month in San Francisco. Latinos follows. The tour resumes in August in Tijuana, then sweeps through Hermosillo, Chihuahua, Torreón, Monterrey, Mexico City, Querétaro, Guadalajara, and Puebla, where she ends in mid-September. In November, she will arrive in Peru.

The move to Miami was not simply about quiet. It was also about preparation. Milan and Sasha are no longer background figures in her career. They are boys learning how to play instruments, how to carry melody, how to enter rooms and speak with music. Their names are no longer footnotes in headlines. They are finding rhythm in a country that, for now, offers space and time.

Their mother still stands nearby as someone who watches, listens, and waits.
