A few months ago, Maxwell Alejandro Frost made history.

Frost became the first Afro-Cuban Gen Z member of Congress. He won Florida’s 10th Congressional District. However, the Florida native, 25, was not sworn in on the first day of the 118th Congress because lawmakers didn’t elect a speaker. Multiple rounds of voting occurred yesterday, but no decision was ever made. Instead, the House decided to adjourn until Wednesday at noon.

Meanwhile, Matt Gaetz sent a letter to the Architect of the Capitol to have Kevin McCarthy removed from the Speaker’s office spaces. In the letter, Gaetz likened McCarthy to a “squatter.”

It’s getting heated in the House.

What happens now?

This was beyond an inconvenience for many. The members who waited to be sworn in, for instance, invited their family and friends to the special event, but it was in vain.

“It is a bummer not having been sworn in. Obviously, my family is all here. At the end of the day, I’m sitting in the House of Representatives, I have on my pin, you know — this is the process,” Rep.-elect Maxwell Frost told the Washington Examiner yesterday.

The Afro-Cuban representative, in an attempt to make light of the event, quoted a previous tweet of him expressing his excitement to be sworn in on January 3rd.

The Afro-Cuban member of Congress has emphasized the importance of fighting to end gun violence, Medicare for All, working towards creating a better criminal system, and ending the climate crisis.

If the process is carried out today, Maxwell Frost will be the first Gen Z with an official seat in Congress. Though he is the first, many more will follow. It’s only a matter of time.

Let’s not forget that Gen Zs are known to be one of the most progressive generations in modern history.
