Happy Monday, dear readers!

We are two weeks into the year, and we already have many fronts to cover when it comes to news.

Although we tried to rest as much as possible this weekend, the world, for its part, was quite hectic.

From the eruption of a volcano in the Pacific to Ariana DeBose’s debut as host of Saturday Night Live, here are the top stories of the weekend.

The ruling comes shortly after the first anniversary of widespread vaccine distribution in a country that remains broadly divided over how best to protect Americans during a pandemic that has produced multiple rebounders. By upholding the Biden administration’s requirement for millions of health care workers, the decision could divide health care workers between opposing state and federal policies.

Novak Djokovic’s last-ditch attempt to salvage his hopes of defending his Australian Open title has failed, with judges ruling on Sunday that Australia’s immigration minister was within his rights to cancel the unvaccinated tennis star’s visa for a second time on the basis that the player could pose a risk to public health and order.

The unvaccinated tennis star said he was “extremely disappointed” but would respect a court’s ruling. He departed on a flight to Dubai from Melbourne Airport on Sunday night.

The FBI has named the man who died after taking four people hostage at a Texas synagogue: 44-year-old Malik Faisal Akram, a British national.

Akram initiated a standoff with police after disrupting a church service at Congregation Beth Israel of Colleyville in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and taking hostages, including the rabbi. He released one hostage unharmed after six hours.

More than 10 hours after the siege began, members of the FBI hostage rescue team stormed the synagogue to free the three remaining hostages. They were said to be “alive and well” after the siege.

The volcano erupted near the remote island nation of Tonga, setting off a string of alerts and triggering powerful waves as far away as the United States.

The volcano’s eruption was dramatic, sending plumes of gas and ash thousands of feet into the atmosphere, although early reports of damage were limited.

Ariana DeBose Makes Saturday Night Live Hosting Debut

Ariana DeBose brought a little West Side Story musical magic to her Saturday Night Live hosting debut. The Golden Globe winner took to the iconic Studio 8H stage in a sparkling pearl white suit and brought a measured confidence to her first monologue.

“I am so honored to be here tonight. Wow! 2022 has already been an exciting year,” DeBose began. “I am hosting SNL, and I won a golden globe for my role as Anita in West Side Story.”

Leslie Grace gives first look at ‘Batgirl’ costume

Actress Leslie Grace gave fans a first look at her costume for the anticipated “Batgirl,” set to be released this year on HBO Max.

“I use their expectations against them,” Grace wrote on Instagram. “That will be their weakness. Not mine. Let them all underestimate me… And when their guard is down, and their pride is rising, let me kick their butts.”

Netflix decided not to renew the half-hour Latino drama, ‘Gentefied,’ for a third season. The decision comes two months after the second season premiered on November 10, disappointing fans.

The series failed to reach Netflix’s Top 10 with the new season, which likely influenced the cancellation decision, which usually considers cost, viewership, and critical success.
