BELatina's Weekend Recap: Ecuador, TIME Magazine Praises Bad Bunny, Cardi B, and More Belatina latine

Hi, everyone!

It’s Thanksgiving week, meaning there’s a little break coming up for many of you. And we truly hope everyone is able to enjoy it. It’s also great to see how some of the largest retailers are also closing for Thanksgiving this year. It’s about damn time.

Before we drag through the week, let’s take a look at what happened this past weekend.

From Ecuador singing victory at the World Cup to Bad Bunny making history again, it’s been quite the weekend.

Take a look at what else took place over the weekend.

Bad Bunny’s ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ is named best album of 2022 by TIME Magazine

El Conejo Malo does it again! It’s safe to say that ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ has been a massive hit everywhere. From Latin music to even the general music industry, the Puerto Rican artist created what will one day be a relic. Consequently, TIME magazine named it the best album of the year. Congratulations, Benito!

Ecuador wins first game at the World Cup

The launch of the World Cup in Qatar started with a game between Ecuador and Qatar. In this case, the home team, Qatar, lost, leaving the Ecuador team to rejoice in victory. The final score was 2-0.

There was yet another hate crime against the LGBTQ community

We must say, however, that it was disheartening to wake up to news about yet another hate crime against the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs at Club Q, an LGBTQ+ – friendly club. Worst of all, it took place on Trans Day of Remembrance, a national observance to remember the trans lives lost to anti-trans violence. Five were murdered and 18 were injured. When will everyone in this nation learn to love and respect others?

The AMAS was blessed with Latine artists

This year, the AMAS recognized both Bad Bunny and Anitta’s musical contribution. Bad Bunny won “Favorite Latin Artist” and “Favorite Latin Album” for “Un Verano Sin Ti.” Meanwhile, Anitta took home the “Favorite Latina Artist” award.

Missy Elliot even shouted out Anitta in her stories calling her a “real one” and expressing how much fun she had at the AMAS.

Though we know more Latine artists could’ve gotten recognition, we will continue to celebrate these two Latine mega stars.

Cardi B had an eventful weekend

At this point, it’s no secret that Cardi B is the ultimate hype woman and supporter of others in the game. She reminded us of this during a Lizzo concert, where she came out to share the stage with the “Truth Hurts” singer.

Later on the weekend, the world was also blessed with a performance by one of our favorite Dominican queens during the AMAS. La Cardi put on an incredible show alongside Glorilla.
