Ice Spice recently responded to claims from her former tour opener, Cleotrapa, dismissing them with little “more than a sigh”. The rising Afro-Latina rapper, who is of Dominican descent, addressed the situation during an X Spaces broadcast after wrapping up her North American Y2K! Tour.

Cleotrapa had taken to TikTok with a multi-part video detailing her grievances about their time on the road, alleging mistreatment, lack of promotion, and financial struggles that she believed Ice Spice had worsened. Cleo even suggested that her addition to the tour was more about “damage control” than genuine support.

Ice Spice Reacts to Cleotrapa

Ice Spice, whose rise to fame has been marked by her unapologetic energy and Dominican pride, saw things differently. She expressed disbelief at Cleo’s complaints, reflecting on their time together. “What are you really talking about right now?” she questioned during her broadcast. Spice described the situation as bizarre, noting that she had shared her stage with an artist who had fewer than 10,000 listeners. “You’re gon’ send me a whole essay after tour… with an intro, body, and conclusion… when all I did was share my stage with you?” she said. She also expressed frustration over what she perceived as a sense of entitlement from Cleo, questioning why her team should have also been responsible for Cleo’s needs.

Cleo’s accusations took a particularly striking turn when she compared the tour bus layout to a slave ship. The comment clearly hit a nerve with Ice Spice, who responded with disbelief. “That is crazy to me, bro… You’re really gon’ be friends with somebody for two years but the whole time you feel like they soulless and dark? Like, you sound dumb as hell.”

Fatphobia Is Never Okay

Ice Spice also described Cleo’s eating habits by saying, “Bitch, you not gon’ tell the people how we was at an Italian restaurant and you ate so much fucking food, you fucking vacuum, that the server was like, where did the food go?” This comparison, though seemingly casual, is deeply problematic.

Labeling someone as a “vacuum” for their eating habits perpetuates harmful fatphobic attitudes and reinforces unrealistic body standards within the Latino community. Such remarks contribute to a culture that stigmatizes body types that deviate from narrow beauty ideals, impacting how Latinas and other women perceive their own bodies.

Given Ice Spice’s influential platform, her words carry weight, and her use of fatphobic language underscores a troubling disregard for the impact of her influence. As a role model, Ice Spice should be mindful of the messages she sends, recognizing that her platform can either challenge or perpetuate harmful stereotypes.

Will This Feud End Soon?

For her part, Cleo insists that their friendship has ended and paints a picture of a tour experience that fell far short of her expectations. She argued that she was given little notice before joining the tour and that Ice Spice failed to shine a spotlight on her as an opener. Cleo also claimed there were financial issues, suggesting that Spice wanted her to struggle.

Cleo even recounted a moment during the tour when Spice allegedly believed Cardi B had sent people to attack her, though the supposed threat turned out to be a woman and her children seeking autographs.

As the drama plays out publicly, Ice Spice appears ready to move on from the situation, while Cleo continues to be vocal about her grievances. Whether the two will reconcile remains uncertain, but for now, the fallout from the tour has left fans with plenty to speculate about.
