Canelo and De La Hoya Had a Heated Exchange This Week – And There Are A Lot of Feelings Around It

The drama brewing between Canelo Álvarez and Oscar De La Hoya reached an all-time high this week at a press conference in Las Vegas. During that event, it became evident that both parties still have a lot of animosity towards each other.

With tension mounting, De La Hoya didn’t mince words at the presser.

“I would be remiss if I didn’t respond to the man I used to promote,” De La Hoya said of Canelo. “He seems to have trouble remembering who helped him become a true global star. To be clear, I have nothing but respect for Canelo as a fighter. His record and ability speak for themselves. But he has spent much of the last two months insulting me rather than promoting this fight. I’ll make it a little bit easier for him. Yes, I have faced a lot of challenges in my life. Yes, I’ve been to rehab several times. Yes, there were some really low points in my life and, yes, there were times when work was not my priority based on my mental health, which I had neglected for so long. But that doesn’t change the fact that Golden Boy built Canelo Alvarez, period. The company he fought under for decades has always had one name, and it’s mine. So put some f-cking respect on it.”

Canelo’s response was laden with profanity, dismissing De La Hoya’s words as scripted and questioning his sincerity.

“You don’t feel what you’re saying, motherf-cker. You have to read it. They write it for you. You don’t write anything, you idiot.”

Then, both boxers squared up, but nothing grave happened. Their team escorted them out shortly after.

Regardless of this mess, there is an upcoming fight between Jaime Munguía and Canelo. Let’s see who will end up taking the prize.
