The reign of “Coco,” and “Encanto” is far from being over. In fact, both animated movies will allegedly get their own lands at the Magic Kingdom Park in Florida. Here’s what we know so far!

The impact of ‘Coco’ and ‘Encanto’

Both “Coco” and “Encanto” were massive hits – especially in our Latine communities. One of the achievements of “Coco” includes being Disney/Pixar’s Best Animated Feature Oscar winner, as well as earning $800.5M at the worldwide box office, per Deadline. This made the animated film the fifth Pixar film to reach this milestone.

“Encanto” also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Additionally, the film received two other nominations that same year. To put this animated film’s trajectory in perspective, it also won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Animated – and was nominated for Best Original Score – Motion Picture and Best Original Song – Motion Picture.

How’s that for the power of both Mexican and Colombian cultures?

What is revealed so far?

According to WDW News Today, the one, or two parks (there are no confirmed details just yet!) may replace Rivers of America which was built in 1955, and Tom Sawyer Island. The same report notes that plans are in “early development,” but speculates that “guests could enter the casita from ‘Encanto’ and ride on an alebrije from ‘Coco.’”

Imagine what a world of ‘Coco’ and ‘Encanto’ in Disney would look like

We can already imagine both worlds filled with color and Latine pride. Moreover, it will be a place where our Latine children can see themselves represented in ways they never have before. This will help blossom their creativity, and at the same time, help other cultures discover both Mexican and Colombian traditions.

While there are no set dates or further details revealed on these potential projects – what we know is that if it’s already buzzing at the 2022 D23 Expo, it’s for a reason!
