Federal Judge To Review Universal Music Case Linking Christian Nodal And Parents To Alleged Forged Contracts

Christian Nodal’s legal dispute with Universal Music has entered a new stage. Reports in Mexican media confirm that the investigation file concerning alleged forgery of more than 30 contracts has now been judicialized. This means the case will move forward under the review of a federal judge, and both the singer and his parents, Jaime González and Cristy Nodal, could be summoned to appear in court.

The Case Moves Toward Federal Court

According to El Universal, Ulrich Richter Morales, attorney for the record label, stated that the citation was filed on September 22 before a Federal Control Judge at the Federal Criminal Justice Center of the Reclusorio Oriente. The Nodal family has yet to confirm or deny the news, and no date has been set for the initial hearing. The development follows years of tension between the artist and the label that launched his career.

Nodal’s history with Universal began when he was first emerging in regional Mexican music. He signed with the label in 2016, and during the contract period until 2020, released three albums: Me dejé llevar, Ahora, and Ayayay!. Those records produced some of his best-known songs, including “Adiós amor,” “Probablemente,” “No te contaron mal,” and “De los besos que te di.” After the contract ended, Nodal filed a civil lawsuit against the label over the rights to his music. Universal responded by filing a counterclaim with Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office, alleging falsification of contracts submitted as evidence.

Family Involvement And Ongoing Disputes

The case has always extended beyond the singer himself. During the years of his initial contract, Nodal’s career was managed by his parents, Jaime González and Cristy Nodal, which explains why they too have been drawn into the legal proceedings. In May 2025, a hearing for the presentation of evidence was held in Mexico City, attended by both parents alongside their son.

Universal Music later requested that the file be judicialized, bringing the matter to the attention of a federal judge, and reports suggest that request has now been granted.

Life Outside The Courtroom

Even as the legal process intensifies, Nodal has tried to present a different picture publicly. Hours before the judicial update became known, his wife, singer Ángela Aguilar, shared a photograph on Instagram showing the couple enjoying time by the sea. The image suggested calm, in contrast to the turbulence surrounding his career.

The dispute with Universal Music has now become one of the most visible conflicts in Latin music, intertwining questions of authorship, family involvement, and the machinery of an industry where young artists often sign contracts without knowing how long the agreements may shape their future. While no court date has been confirmed, the case now rests in the hands of a federal judge, who will decide how the next chapter unfolds for one of Mexico’s most recognizable stars.
