Guatemala’s former beauty queen, Ivana Batchelor, recently sat down for an interview with Spanish YouTuber Paulino G, where they spoke about various topics, including her personal life and nationality. However, Batchelor’s response to a question about her origins has sparked controversy on social media, particularly on TikTok.

In the interview, Paulino G asked Batchelor about her nationality, to which she responded, “Of course, it’s a bit obvious that I’m not fully Guatemalan. With my height and skin tone, it’s kind of obvious. But yes, my parents are originally American. They’re from the state of Georgia in the United States.” This is a classic case of racial stereotype – and that type of behavior should never be accepted.

She also shared that her parents came to Guatemala as missionaries and fell in love with the country, deciding to stay and raise their family there.

Despite her American roots, Batchelor emphasized that she grew up fully immersed in Guatemalan culture. “This is where I and my other sister were born, and my parents fell head over heels for the country and stayed here, and I grew up here,” Batchelor told Paulino G.

Ivana Batchelor Apologizes for Her Horrific Comments about Guatemalan People

Following the backlash from her comments, Batchelor took to social media to issue an apology to her followers and anyone who may have been offended. With teary eyes and a serious demeanor, she expressed regret for any hurt caused and clarified that it was never her intention to offend her country or its people.

“I’ve seen comments, posts about my recent interview, and I wanted to clarify a few points. It has never been my intention to offend my country, let alone its people. To those who felt this way, I want to apologize,” she said in her apology video.

Batchelor also revealed that the criticism she faced prompted her to step away from pageants for the time being. She acknowledged the need for sensitivity and understanding in discussions about nationality and identity.
