Update: Camille Vasquez is no longer Kanye West’s lawyer as of October 24, 2022.
Kanye West aka Ye reportedly hired Latina Camille Vasquez, the former lawyer of Johnny Depp who gained popularity for her fierce cross examination in court against Amber Heard. West, one of the most critically acclaimed artists of the 21st century, has turned his reputation from genius to a down right cynic after recent anti-Semitic statements, which has many wondering if this is a good move for Vasquez.
West has been on a self-destructive tour throughout the month of October accumulating quite the list – starting with his comments surrounding the death of George Floyd, ending/losing relationships with businesses and longtime partners (Balenciaga recently pulled the plug), and wearing a t-shirt in support of the neo-Nazi group “White Lives Matter” at his Yeezy fashion show in Paris. He has also declared war on P-Diddy on social media – a long-time friend and business associate of over 20 years.
Camille Vasquez, a litigation and arbitration lawyer at Brown Rudnick, was hired by West to oversee all his future business deals and contracts. This is definitely a good move for West and Brown Rudnick. However, many are concerned that Vasquez may be putting her reputation in danger by representing the controversial artist, who has been a ticking time bomb as of late.
Vasquez previously went viral during the Depp/Heard defamation trial where she was most credited by the public in Depp’s $15 million victory.
Before representing Johnny Depp, Vasquez attended USC for her Bachelor’s Degree and Southern Western Law School for her JD (Juris Doctor Degree). She has been employed by Brown Rudnick since 2018, where she has worked with other clients, including Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
What do you think of this news? Even if you are not a fan of Ye, his impact on the fashion and music industry has undeniably given him a powerful influence over millions of people. We hope he can turn things around and get the help he needs. Perhaps Camille Vasquez will offer the guidance he needs – but catching lightning in a bottle can be very dangerous.
