BELatina’s Weekend Recap: Bad Bunny in the Dominican Republic, Cardi B, Mon Laferte, and More belatina latine

Happy Monday! Does it feel like the weekend went by in the blink of an eye or is it just on our end? Whatever the case may be, we must get back to our routine and hope to have a productive week.

As we all get ready to tackle the day, let’s take a moment to read about what happened over the weekend.

From Cardi B disputing with Madonna to Bad Bunny kicking off his Latin American leg of his Word Hottest Tour, there’s quite a bit of excitement to start off the day.

Let’s get to it!

Mon Laferte ties the knot!

Chilean singer-songwriter Mon Laferte married musician Joel Orta after years of dating and several months after giving birth to her firstborn.

The information was confirmed after a photo was shared on her official Instagram account where she was seen wearing a white dress and holding hands with her now husband.

“I accept, I love you Joel, to infinity and beyond,” Laferte wrote in Spanish.

Bad Bunny started the Latin America leg of his tour with a bang

Bad Bunny gave the Dominican Republic two days of joy with his shows. Though both shows were out-of-this-world spectacular, he finished off Saturday night with a couple of the most important Dominican musicians, Tokischa and Toño Rosario.

El Cuquito performed “Después de la playa” together with Conejo Malo – among other numbers.

While Benito performed with Tokischa, they sang a remixed version of “Titi asked me”,  making the crowd go crazy. Bad Bunny filled the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium with approximately 40 thousand people. Some say it felt like a music festival.

Jowell and Randy, Archangel, Ángel Dior, and Jhayco joined the Boricua superstar on Friday.

Cardi B wins lawsuit

According to Business Insider, Cardi B won a lawsuit on Friday after being accused of copyright infringement. Kevin Michael Brophy sued Cardi B because he alleged she used his tattoo, without his permission, on a suggestive mixtape cover. The AP reported that  Cardi and her team argued the album art was transformative and fell under fair use.

After the trial, both Brophy and Cardi B spoke and shook hands.

Pilot flees Cuba and lands in Florida

The 29-year-old Cuban pilot, named Rubén Martínez, escaped from Cuba in a Russian plane. He managed to reach American soil by landing at the Dade Collier Training and Transition Airport in South Florida. He was found safe when approached.

Madonna is called out by Cardi B

Evidently, Cardi B had a busy weekend. Madonna wrote on her Instagram the following:

“30 years ago I published a book called ‘S.E.X.’ In addition to photos of me naked there were photos of Men kissing Men, Woman kissing Woman and Me kissing everyone,” Madonna wrote in an Instagram story post on Saturday. She went on to highlight the intense criticism she received at the time of the book’s publication. “Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her naked ass and Miley Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball.”

And it wasn’t taken lightly, especially not by Cardi B.

Cardi or Belcalis (her birth name), took to social media to express her disappointment in one of her idol’s behavior.

“I literally [paid] this woman homage so many times cause I grew up listening to her… she can make her point without putting clown emojis and getting slick out the mouth,” Cardi tweeted and inserted a screenshot of a 2018 article where she praised the “Like a Virgin” singer. “These icons really become disappointments once u make it in the industry that’s why I keep to myself.”

However, after the brief clash, it was revealed that both musical powerhouses reconciled and are on good terms again.
