March 8 draws attention every year to the long fight for women’s rights and equal opportunity.

International Women’s Day began as a labor movement led by women workers in the early twentieth century who protested exploitation and discrimination in factories and workplaces. Over time the date has grown into a global moment that recognizes progress while also encouraging conversation about equality, safety, and autonomy for women in every part of society.

The day also prompts reflection across entertainment and cultural spaces where women continue navigating industries historically shaped by male leadership. Colombian singer Karol G used the occasion to share a personal message about how her relationship with womanhood has changed over time.

Karol G Reflects on Early Doubts

Karol G admitted that there was a period in her life when she believed being a man might have offered greater opportunities.

“For many years I thought it would have been amazing to be born a man,” she wrote in Spanish. “I saw it as something that opened the door to new opportunities because everything I wanted to do seemed conditioned by the fact that I was a woman and that meant I would not achieve it.”

Her comment addressed a feeling familiar to many women who pursue careers in industries where men have historically dominated leadership and decision making.

A Different Perspective Today

Karol G explained that her outlook shifted as she began to recognize the strength she associates with being a woman.

“I feel infinitely grateful and special to be a woman,” she wrote, adding that if she had the chance to live her life again she would still choose to be a woman.

She continued describing the emotional depth she believes defines womanhood.

“We feel strongly, we feel deeply, we feel with empathy,” she continued. “Women have an incredible ability to sustain life, rebuild ourselves, heal, and keep walking even when we are tired.”

Her words resonated with many fans because they recognized both the difficulties women face and the resilience that often develops through those experiences.

A Tribute to Women Everywhere

Karol G closed her message with an enthusiastic tribute to women and the power she believes defines them.

“Now I see clearly how powerful we are,” she shared. “We are beauty, strength, intuition, sensitivity, sensuality, confidence, and power.”

The singer ended her message by wishing women a meaningful International Women’s Day.
