Pink carpet covered the plaza. Karol G returned home with a documentary and an invitation to the people who shaped her. Medellín, Colombia saw its streets turn into a celebration as the singer unveiled Karol G: Mañana Fue muy bonito, set to premiere on Netflix worldwide May 8.

Crowds gathered early outside the Museum of Modern Art. Music echoed through the “city of eternal spring” as fans danced, sang, and stepped into a world built for them. A stage hosted appearances by her closest collaborators. Surrounding it were karaoke booths, photo studios, makeup stations, and a boxing ring. This was not a standard premiere. This was a city offering its applause to one of their queens.

A Homecoming Told Through Carolina

The documentary follows Carolina Giraldo, not the global persona. She steps in front of the camera while on a stadium tour, but the story folds inward. “What made this most special is that among the guests present, there are many people who were part of this process when I was just starting,” she wrote earlier that day. “People who know this story from the beginning and who added their grain of sand in some way.”

She walked into the event dressed in black. This had to happen in Medellín, among her own. Once inside, she spoke about what it felt like to watch her journey onscreen. “I admire her deeply, even more after seeing this documentary,” she said as reported by El Colombiano, referring to the version of herself revealed in the film. The experience, she said, felt like catharsis. It forced her to speak about difficult moments she had never addressed publicly. “Every day I learn something new about myself. I believe that in the generation we are living through now, we move through the rush of daily life and are not always awake to the opportunities in front of us.”

A Celebration Made for Her People

Before stepping inside the museum for the screening, she performed Amargura for the crowd. Fans watched a fragment of the film, many of them seeing themselves reflected in it. Karol G told them this marked the beginning of a new phase in her life.

Mañana Será Bonito arrives on Netflix May 8.
