Natalia Lafourcade has been named the first “Music Ambassador for Peace” at the 19th World Summit of Nobel Laureates for Peace, held in Monterrey, Mexico. This prestigious title was presented to the award-winning Mexican singer-songwriter by the Permanent Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Laureates for Peace, recognizing the transformative power of her music in promoting hope, unity, and peace globally.

Natalia Lafourcade Is a Trailblazer

“Music is a universal language that knows no borders or limits,” Lafourcade shared in an official statement, expressing her belief in the profound connection music creates among people. “It is inclusive and gives us the space and time to illuminate a place with our existence. Music reflects our cultural diversity and promotes respect and visibility. It connects us with hope, inspiration, and spirituality. Peace is our sacred right. We are one, and there is an inevitable bond among all humanity.”

Lafourcade’s appointment as the first “Music Ambassador for Peace” marks the beginning of a new initiative by the Nobel Laureates for Peace organization to bring musicians and internationally acclaimed artists into the dialogue on human rights, civil coexistence, and peace. This collaboration aims to leverage the universal language of music to raise awareness and inspire action on some of the world’s most pressing issues.

The “I Commit to Peace” campaign, launched in Monterrey, will feature Lafourcade as its primary spokesperson. The initiative seeks to inspire younger generations to work towards a more just and peaceful world, with Lafourcade’s art and message at the forefront. As the President of the Permanent Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Laureates for Peace stated, “I am proud to have Natalia Lafourcade as the first Music Ambassador for Peace… I am sure that I Commit to Peace will be just the first of many projects we will do together.”

Lafourcade’s impact extends beyond her peace ambassador role. She recently performed two sold-out concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, where she shared the stage with conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil, drawing over 28,000 fans across both nights. This October, she will return to the U.S. to perform with Dudamel and the LA Phil at Carnegie Hall, an iconic performance that promises to further solidify her status as an artist with global resonance.

Another Milestone

Her recognition as a “Music Ambassador for Peace” adds another milestone to an already remarkable career. Natalia Lafourcade, hailing from Veracruz, México, is one of the most celebrated Latin American musicians, with 17 Latin GRAMMYs, more than any other Latina artist in history. Her most recent album, De Todas Las Flores, earned a GRAMMY in 2024, along with three Latin GRAMMYs, including “Record of the Year.”

Lafourcade’s work often reflects her deep connection to culture and tradition, with music serving as a bridge to unite people and create positive social change. Her album Un Canto por México was conceived as a benefit album, with its proceeds aiding the reconstruction of Veracruz’s Centro de Documentación Del Son Jarocho, a cultural center damaged by the 2017 earthquake. Through her art, Lafourcade continues to demonstrate how creativity can be a powerful tool for social good.

Now, with her new title as “Music Ambassador for Peace,” Lafourcade is set to use her platform to inspire further action and solidarity, proving that music, indeed, has the power to change the world.
