For the last five years, LATINAFest has made it a point to unite, support, and empower Latinas of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds.

It has become the largest outdoor festival on the West Coast and it celebrates all things Latina. They make it a point to shine a light on the contributions of Latinas, and this year is no different. In fact, this year they are honoring Dolores Huerta, the civil rights activist and Founder and President of the Dolores Huerta Foundation, at their fifth annual extravaganza.

LATINAFest is a community-based organization. It was founded by two award-winning journalists Bel Hernandez and Naibe Reynoso in 2018. The upcoming event will also be used to commemorate Women’s History Month.

She represents everything that LATINAFest stands for,” said LATINAFest co-founders Naibe Reynoso and Bel Hernandez. “Strength, unity, and passion are the pillars by which LATINAFest prides itself on, and Dolores is all that and so much more.”’

Huerta will be honored due to her impactful work and the influence she continues to have on younger generations. There is o denying that she deserves all the recognition she gets.

The Chicana activist is best known for fighting for the United Farm Workers labor union alongside Cesar Chavez. Aside from that, she coined the famous phrase, “Sí, se puede,” an expression that was used in the face of oppression when El Movimiento was experiencing relentless attacks. To this day, she continues to be a vocal proponent of empowerment through representation.
