The skies over Mexico were thrown into chaos when a passenger armed with a pen attempted to hijack Volaris Flight 3041 en route to Tijuana. The incident, which unfolded early on Sunday, December 8, began just 30 minutes after the aircraft had departed from Guanajuato. Passengers, including families with children, were thrust into a nightmare at 35,000 feet.

What Happened on This Scary Volaris Flight

Witnesses say the man, who was traveling with his wife and children, first tried to open one of the cabin doors mid-flight. Then, in an alarming escalation, he held a pen to the neck of a flight attendant, demanding the plane be diverted to the United States. His refusal to board the flight earlier had already caused tension, but his wife’s reassurances had seemingly calmed him before takeoff.

Passengers and crew worked together to defuse the situation, though not without harrowing moments. Videos shared on social media capture the panic on board — the cries of children, shouts of alarm, and the raw emotion of those attempting to restrain the man.

The ordeal came to a halt when the plane made an emergency landing at Guadalajara International Airport. There, the aggressor was handed over to authorities, including members of the National Guard. Volaris later issued a statement on X, confirming the event and commending the swift actions that ensured the safety of passengers and crew.
