Wisin’s Universidad del Perreo Hilariously Offered Aleks Syntek a Full Scholarship After His Half-Hearted Apology for Mocking Reggaeton

Aleks Syntek spent years publicly criticizing reggaeton and the artists who make it, mocked the Puerto Rican accent on stage and watched the public turn against him with a speed that should have been its own lesson. Then he came out and said he respects reggaeton artists, clarifying that he does not personally listen to their music but offering what appeared to be his version of an apology for the public commentary that had caused the backlash. The response was immediate and it was not kind, and the Universidad del Perreo was absolutely not having it.

The admissions committee issued Communication Number 5 to one Raúl Alejandro Escajadillo Peña, known artistically as Aleks Syntek, informing him that after a rigorous evaluation of his trajectory, he has been awarded a Full Scholarship to pursue studies at the university, which includes full enrollment, access to all courses and a reserved front row seat for the semester’s master class, with a welcome message reminding him that at the Universidad del Perreo, one comes to learn, to sweat and to perreo with honors.

What the Universidad del Perreo Actually Is

The Universidad del Perreo is the creative concept behind Puerto Rican artist Wisin’s latest studio album, a marketing campaign so convincing that millions of followers signed up thinking it was a real academic institution in Cayey, Puerto Rico before Wisin confirmed it was the theme of his new record. The album features twelve songs released under his label La Base Music Group, with collaborations from Ivy Queen, Jowell and Randy, Don Chezina and Franco El Gorilla, and pays tribute to the origins of reggaeton through conceptual elements including urban history courses and the motto Perreum et Scientia.

The project is a love letter to a genre that built itself from the ground up while the rest of the industry looked away, and the fact that its first scholarship letter went to Aleks Syntek is a moment of poetic justice that no one could have planned better.

The Apology That Nobody Was Prepared to Accept

Syntek’s attempt at walking back his years of public criticism managed to simultaneously apologize and condescend in the same breath, clarifying that he respects reggaeton artists personally while making sure everyone knew he still does not listen to their music.

People who had already spent considerable energy calling out his mockery of the Puerto Rican accent and his resentment of Bad Bunny’s global success were not prepared to accept a half-measure dressed up as reconciliation, and the Universidad del Perreo’s response captured that energy perfectly by responding with humor.

All That Is Left Is for Syntek to Show Up

Wisin’s team reviewed Syntek’s very public trajectory and decided he earned a full scholarship with a front row seat in the master class, and honestly the offer could not be more fitting. All that is left is for Syntek to show up to orientation, but given that he has not publicly responded, the Universidad del Perreo may want to send a follow-up.
