Could Ghosting Serve as Empowerment for the Latino Community This Spooky Season?

Could Ghosting Serve as Empowerment for the Latino Community This Spooky Season?

Spooky season is officially here, and Latinos are fully embracing the fun of it all. What used to be a day steeped in superstition has transformed into a celebration of friends and family

Personally, I remember when Halloween was more about strict rules than costumes. Growing up in an ultra-conservative household meant Halloween was often compared to a day conjured by the devil, and participation felt more like a secret mission than a festive occasion. But now? I’m all in for the vibes — the costumes, the decor, pumpkin patches, cute fall outfits, and yes, the delightful act of ghosting. After all, Halloween is the perfect time to practice this social maneuver.

Yes, I know that ghosting can sometimes get a bad rap. Usually, it can be seen as a way to avoid responsibility. But there are definitely people and situations that deserve a good ghosting. I said what I said!

So, if you’re ready to channel your inner villain this Halloween, here’s a playful guide on what to leave behind.

Imposter Syndrome

Let’s be real: imposter syndrome can feel like an unwelcome shadow, especially in the Latino community. That nagging voice telling you you’re not enough? It’s a total lie. With Millennials and Gen Z stepping up as some of the most educated generations among us, we’ve got this! So, the next time that pesky imposter syndrome creeps in, kick it to the curb!

Toxic Family Members

Family is often viewed as everything, but let’s face it — sometimes family can be the root of your stress. If certain relatives are continually disrupting your peace, it might be time to wave goodbye instead of trying to patch things up for the umpteenth time. Embracing boundaries means you’re the one holding the power now. Boo, you’re now the scary one!

Unrealistic Expectations

“¿Para cuando el bebé o el novio/a? ¿Cuando te casas?” We’ve all been there, right? Those nosy tias asking questions that make you feel like you’re on trial. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by these pressures but remember: your life timeline is yours and yours alone. Don’t let anyone dictate when you should hit those milestones. You’re in control now — embrace it!

El Que Dirán

Time to stop worrying about “el que dirán.” I know it’s hard not to care about what others think, especially family, but their opinions are just noise. If people are buzzing about you, take it as a compliment — they’re talking because you’re living your life boldly. Use that energy to fuel your journey. Your path is yours to walk, so let the whispers become background music.

Latino Beauty Standards

Let’s talk about beauty standards for a moment. The pressure to fit into a narrow mold —long hair, a slim but curvy body, perfect makeup — can feel suffocating. But here’s the truth: you don’t have to conform. Instead of striving to meet these expectations, focus on what makes you feel good. Whether that’s rocking a fit physique or embracing your natural curves, self-acceptance is the real beauty.

This Halloween, don’t hesitate to ghost anything or anyone that doesn’t add value to your life. If you want to embody your inner bruja, go for it! This is your life, and you deserve to live it on your terms. So, let’s celebrate the spooky season by choosing what truly matters to us and leaving behind the rest.
