Television has spent decades returning to the figure of Pablo Escobar, often through stories driven by power and money, yet rarely through the perspective of the people who grew up inside that world without choosing it. “Dear Killer Nannies” approaches that history from a different starting point, placing a child at the center of the narrative and asking viewers to look at the era through the daily reality of someone who lived it before understanding it.

The upcoming series, inspired by the experiences of Juan Pablo Escobar, tells its story through the eyes of Juampi, a boy growing up as the son of Colombia’s most infamous drug trafficker. The teaser introduces a childhood shaped by guarded adults, constant supervision, and an atmosphere where danger feels present even in ordinary moments. Violence remains in the background, suggested through tone and setting instead of graphic display.

Produced by Telemundo Studios, Underground Producciones, and TIS Studios, the series will stream on Disney Plus in Latin America and Hulu in the United States. Sebastián Ortega leads the project as show-runner alongside Juan Pablo Escobar and Pablo Farina, grounding the narrative in personal testimony.

John Leguizamo Returns to a Complicated History

John Leguizamo portrays Pablo Escobar, continuing his long engagement with stories connected to Colombia’s drug war. Born in Bogotá and raised in New York, Leguizamo has often spoken about the responsibility of telling Latin American stories with care and context.

Unlike previous projects that centered law enforcement or criminal networks, this series frames Escobar through his role as a father whose power shaped every aspect of his son’s life. The teaser suggests a distant and commanding presence whose influence extends even when he remains off screen.

A Story Told Through Family and Memory

“Dear Killer Nannies” draws directly from Juan Pablo Escobar’s recollections of growing up surrounded by armed guards who functioned as protectors and constant reminders of risk. These men became part of Juampi’s daily routine, shaping how he learned to move through the world.

The teaser presents ordinary moments unfolding under constant supervision, where safety and fear exist side by side. Childhood appears structured, controlled, and closely monitored. This perspective shifts attention away from criminal mythology and toward lived experience.

Waiting for ‘Dear Killer Nannies’

Only limited footage has been released, and the series has not yet premiered. Its full direction will become clear once audiences see the complete story.

For many Colombians, narratives about Escobar remain deeply personal. “Dear Killer Nannies” suggests an effort to approach that history without nostalgia or distortion, focusing instead on how violence shaped family life.

When the series launches, viewers will see whether this child centered approach succeeds in telling one of Colombia’s most painful chapters with honesty and restraint.

The first look teaser is now available and can be found online.
