Disney is betting on stars in its upcoming animated movie, “Wish.” And we are here for it!
It recently released the first trailer of the movie, which is a musical comedy about the origins of the wishing star. Within it, the protagonist, Asha, played by Academy Award®-winning Afro-Latina actor Ariana DeBose is heard singing a clip of the song, “This Wish.” “This Wish” was written by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice.
Also, thanks to DeBose, Disney will have its first Afro-Latina princess. The film is said to be a tie-in project to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary.
“We have been inspired by so many iconic films over Disney Animation’s 100 years, especially stories where we explore the power of someone with a wish, combined with the conviction to make that wish come true,” co-director Fawn Veerasunthorn (“Raya and the Last Dragon”) said in an official statement.
“Being able to honor that legacy with this incredible story and these amazing characters has been a joy for our entire team.”
“Wish” will take its audience into the fantastical world of Rosas, which is located off the Iberian Peninsula.
