Ojani Noa, Jennifer Lopez’s first husband, has surfaced with some unsolicited advice following her recent split from Ben Affleck. In a move that feels both entitled and disrespectful, Noa suggested Lopez should remain single for at least a year before diving into another relationship. His comments, made during an interview with the Daily Mail, came across as particularly puzzling given that his own marriage to Lopez, also known as JLo, lasted less than a year back in the ’90s.

The Advice to JLo

Noa’s suggestion that Lopez keep any future relationships private and avoid marrying again feels like a stretch for someone who wasn’t part of her life for long. He claims his advice stems from his own brief experience with Lopez, as well as her subsequent relationships, but the audacity of offering guidance on a situation he hasn’t been close to in decades speaks volumes.

The pair met in 1996 at Gloria Estefan’s restaurant in Miami, married in 1997, and divorced just 11 months later. Noa, now 50, reflects on their time together, comparing it to Lopez’s recent struggles with Affleck. He recalls how, during their brief marriage, they frequently clashed but had to present a facade of happiness to the public. Interestingly, he notes that the photos of Affleck looking miserable during his time with Lopez struck a familiar chord for him. But why offer commentary now?

Despite their short-lived marriage, Noa insists there are no hard feelings, claiming he was a supportive husband who helped Lopez navigate her anxieties. He says he was heartbroken after the divorce, as he believed in their marriage and felt deeply involved in her career’s early days. Still, his decision to speak publicly about Lopez’s personal life, despite having long since moved on, feels less like concern and more like an attempt to stay relevant.

Lopez Doesn’t Sweat Ojani Noa

Lopez, of course, continued her life after Noa, marrying Cris Judd in 2001, though that marriage ended just a year later. Her most significant relationship was with singer Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins Max and Emme, now 16. That marriage lasted until 2011, making it her longest and most stable.

Lopez and Affleck, who rekindled their romance in 2021, married in Las Vegas in July 2022, twenty years after canceling their first engagement in 2004. They held a second, more extravagant wedding at Affleck’s Georgia estate, but two years later, Lopez filed for divorce. Choosing the exact date of their second anniversary for her filing suggests there was a deliberate emotional weight behind her decision.

Rumors of a split had swirled for months, with the couple notably absent from key events like Lopez’s 55th birthday and their wedding anniversary. During this time, they put their $68 million Beverly Hills mansion up for sale, while Affleck moved into a $20 million home. Lopez cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, but despite the end of their marriage, the pair were spotted together having lunch with their children in Beverly Hills, showing they remain in contact for their families’ sake.

Is This Entitlement?

While Noa claims his intentions are genuine, his unsolicited advice comes across as anything but. From a man whose relationship with Lopez was brief and decades in the past, it feels out of place and unnecessary. One has to wonder, is Noa still butthurt because Lopez chose not to share a life with him?

Nevertheless, Lopez has proven time and again that she’s capable of navigating her life on her terms, without the need for unsolicited commentary from those who no longer play a role in it.
